Gas hook up for a new range

Looking to replace my old electric range with a gas/electric combo. I need a gas line run, any recommendation on who to call?? Would prefer someone who’s licensed/insured and certified gas fitter.

Thanks

im located in East Amherst

DIY, it is easy.

Otherwise you can try Jameson. They are an HVAC contractor that does heating installs and I would assume that they could do gas lines for an appliance. I can’t say for sure that they will do appliance hookup but they are a good company HVAC/Electrical wise.

Normally I would try and tackle this myself, but my wife is freaked out that I might blow up the house.

I agree. This is not something you want to do if you’re unsure. Don’t want to see you on the news.

Tell your wife it will be fine. Get some CSST and the proper fittings. A monkey could install it. The way you check for a NG leak is with a simple bottle of soapy water sprayed on the fittings to make sure there is no bubbling. Also the smell test will work about 10 minutes after installing everything (some scent will linger from when you crack into the existing system).

I have re plumbed two houses that were undersized systems with a mix of iron and CSST and I have not had any major issues. I had one fitting that was leaking non stop and finally figured out that the internal o-ring has a tiny nick in it that was causing failure. That was the greatest of my issues and was fixed with a $5 part kit.

I’ve called around and it seem like all these plumbers charge a “Dispatch Fee” ($30-$60) some will apply these to your overall bill but others wont. Is this common?

This is my method too…

Yes. They have to pay a guy to go look at it so they bill you. I have found that it is common for plumbers and HVAC folks. Electrical not so much unless it is an emergency.

I had Celino (spelling) Plumber come out and give me a quote and it was $600+… seems a little excessive?? ill try to list the quote when I get home.

Roughly, how far is the gas line going?

How far do you have to go?

Just DIY, wait for the wife to go out for the day and do it up. I did mine a few years ago same thing. Went from an electric stove to a gas. I was lucky enough to be abe to use an old capped off pipe from a hot water tank. I even had to go from basement to the 2nd story. Easy as pie.

okay let me decipher the quote…(bad handwriting)

We need to cut and rethread the 3/4 gas line in the basement
Install a Tee and a union run line to stove location
install gas valve for isolation
20’ line

$547.89
$ 90.70 SPP
$638.59 TOTAL

bump @Johnnylude what did you end up doing for this? I’m going to be doing the same thing with replacing an electric stove with gas. I’ll probably end up doing this with a buddy of mine who has some good plumbing experience but was curious with what you decided on.

i redid all the gas lines in my house included a line out to the grill, and adding a basement kitchen with gas stove. gas lines are easy they literally screw together.

I do hvac for a large contractor, im not insured, but i could do they job for a lot less

EDIT: i missed the bump!

we went with a local amherst company, i forgot the name. It cost roughly 350 and he was done in an hour. We’ve since sold and moved so im sorry i cant be more helpful.

Thanks for following up, I figured it probably was still fairly costly but couldn’t hurt to find out. I’ll more than likely end up doing this myself with my friend.
