Gauging Interest: NECC Floor Hockey/Sports Days

I would prefer to play contact but whatever we can can get going is fine by me.I hope we can get something arramged, this sounds like a an awesome idea.

Yeah schools are always nice and cheap, and I think we’ll be looking at the cheap timeslots anyway (Saturday/Sunday 6 - 10pm) as most of us work during the week. I know the Jewish Community Center (156st, below the whitemud) rents out their gymnasium for practically nothing… a lot of ball hockey leagues play there because of the prices.

The simplest way to find good locations is to look up a local sports league (floor hockey, volleyball, badminton, etc) and look at the schedule. It should list all of the places they’re playing.

I dunno wat the problem is here 10 people at $10.00 would be $100.00, and it would just be cheaper from there. So how is that expensive?

Wait…contact floor hockey? Seriously?

Sounds like fun. :E

What about outdoor Hockey, any takers to that when the season is right? I mean I don’t live in Sher. Pk anymore but honestly we could sometimes go out to my house out there and play some pond hockey, I live on the lake in Village on the Lake and we always have an ice rink shoveled off, plus a hot tub and big screen in the Basement so that could definately be something to keep in mind as well.

Me = no skate. I guess I’m not Canadian anymore… :E

Remember, that’s $100 per hour. We’d all probably want to be there for a couple hours, so now you’re looking at $20 each every time we play. If more people show up, we’ll want to stay for another hour, and if less show up, we split the costs between fewer of us. It’s tricky… so to be safe, it’s better to grab a cheap gymnasium somewhere.

If we can get lots of people out regularly I think it would be awesome to graduate to a bigger arena, but that takes time.

We should to a ultimate frisbee team, i will check out if there are any winter leagues, that game is INTENSE.

scratch that, just looked at the web site and you can only sign up 2 people, you and your friend, NO teams, they make the teams how retareded is that.

I have been looking at Edmonton public school board and their rules for gym rentals.Although it is extremely cheap they don’t allow anyone over the age of 12 to play floor hockey in the gyms. They also don’t allow indoor soccer to be played. My mom is a teacher at Graminia school which is just outside of Devon, we may be able to use their facilities. The only problem is that the school is basically in the boonies. If we are interested in that venue I will do some more investigating.

If thats the case how about we get a good solid game of full court basketball ?

Hey andru were not all half black like you.

well at least i am not :E

Damn. I’ll call around to some of the community centers (Jewish Community Center, Polish Hall, etc) and see if they have any restrictions, and get a ballpark price.

Floor hockey, great. You have to watch though, everytime I play it gets rougher each game. The occasional outdoor pickup game is safer and fun. I used to also rent the Rexal place once a year for a full dressed hockey game (no hitting) great fun. Anything you do has to be pay before you play or you will forever be chasing guys down.
Whatever, evenings are prob. better.

Ive seen indoor soccor played at a school in the north and everyone was over 12 lol. I dont know which school it was. might have been a cathloic. I’ll look in to it

Ok so I got ahold of the Jewish Community Center (JCC from here on in) on the west end… they charge $40 / hour, and allow any sports to be played. I also called the Catholic School Board, and they don’t allow floor hockey at any of their facilities.

JCC has a bunch of open spots in the afternoons every weekend, so I think that’ll work out perfectly. We can get like 3 hours of gym time and it should still be nice and cheap for everyone.

Do you organizer guys (Mike, Dave, et al) wanna turn this into a full event?

How could you play hockey without the possibly the biggest and toughest kid in the entire NECC ?! aka. me.

I am down, I got goalie.

I’d be up for anything… Ice Hockey, Floor Hockey, Soccer, Ice Racing… Lets go…

JCC sounds great to me. Are there any special rules we should be aware of?

I assume we need to bring our own equip?

It’s floor hockey! Two feet and a heartbeat!

In all seriousness, sticks (plastic blades) and a ball is all we’d need. I would assume they’d have the nets there, but I’ll call tomorrow and find out. I’m sure any of us former hockey players have a million broken sticks laying around, and plastic blades cost all of $2 to slap on the end. If this turns into a full event, I’ll just go throw 5 plastic blades onto the end of some sticks so we have extra.

Nah, I doubt there’s even anyone around on the weekend to enforce them anyway :stuck_out_tongue: We can make our own rules when we get there (ie: no touching privates BORA)
