I was thinking today about how much fun it would be to have some sort of weekly get together to play some floor hockey, indoor soccer, etc. It would likely be at night around 7ish, preferrably somewhere in a central location so it would be easy to get to. It wouldn’t be ostensibly competitive, just more of a fun thing.
Interested? Post up here!
The dates listed above are grouped together just to cut down on the number of options, post up the day you’d prefer.
I know Millenium Place isn’t that central, but they have an awesome area that we could rent out to play floor hockey in at nights, it’s pretty all that it is used for at nights.
Most of the bigger places(milleniun Place, kinsmen) charge quite alot to rent the facilities. They are usually around 100/150 hr.I know out here in spruce grove at some of the schools they have drop in sports.Maybe one of the schools in the city might allow us to use their gym at a much cheaper price.Other than that I have no idea as to were we could hold an event like this on a weekly basis and not cost a lot.
Yeah schools are always nice and cheap, and I think we’ll be looking at the cheap timeslots anyway (Saturday/Sunday 6 - 10pm) as most of us work during the week. I know the Jewish Community Center (156st, below the whitemud) rents out their gymnasium for practically nothing… a lot of ball hockey leagues play there because of the prices.
The simplest way to find good locations is to look up a local sports league (floor hockey, volleyball, badminton, etc) and look at the schedule. It should list all of the places they’re playing.
Sounds like the time to do it would be on the weekends. The only reason I would hesistate to join a league is because we’d have to be sure to get enough people on the team to play each game. If we could be sure that people would commit to a team, we could do that sort of thing.
I don’t personally know any leagues in edmonton - anyone got a hookup out there?
There’s a couple of options in the city, if I remember correctly, and each has a slightly different demographic. I’ll see if I can dig up the names. Do we want to play contact, or non-contact?
