I’ve done alot for these guys, and I’m not a member of any club. I don’t ride sleds often. Don’t own one, hate working on them. I just thought I would share this.
The trail that is on our property means nothing to me. I’m considering telling them to find another way. For a club to make public statements like this is pretty unprofessional. I hope their membership this year drops.
I have no idea what is going on here?
Cliffs:snowmobile club talking shit to land owners .
But from that comment it seems like they just have a beef with ATV riders not respecting property?
I think you need to re-read that post a few times.
Still doesn’t make sense to me.
same.
I’m a member in Hamburg and ATV’s can cause issues for trail clubs. Most are not saying that all ATV riders are a problem, I think he’s just trying to say many tend to hop on snowmobile trails and landowners didn’t intend for them to be used for other than snowmobile trails. Farmers are especially sensitive to this as we do our best to place signage where crops may be planted. Sled clubs can’t control ATV use and it can create problems for the sled clubs who have spent all the time and effort to set up / maintain the trail with a landowner.
No part of that statement was directed at land owners.
So it’s not just me
With comments like that on on the Fb page… I’d make them move the trail too. I don’t ride a sled, but the atv’s don’t do too much damage unless you ride like an ass. I hate the general attitude sled riders have.
Can we see the whole conversation?
Edit: Years ago a find of mine and his neighbor let the the trial go through their property. Part of the trail they used year round to get to a cabin. Club had a fit about the use of atv’s and trackers on it. Even snowmobile riders would try to stop and yell at them. Finally said get the fuck off our land, no more trail use. Took 2 years for the club to find another way around.
I’m a avid atv rider, that comment was directed towards me seeing I was sticking up for atv riders. The whole conversation is very long, and seems to show up odd on my phone. Every farmer owns an atv. Depends how much they actually use it, but we all own them.
The day a club tells me I cant ride and atv on my own land is the day the trail gets closed.
One of the biggest aspects of this is the insurance BS sled clubs have to deal with and landowners getting sued by irresponsible sledders (and possibly ATV’ers) riding on landowner property. I’m not even sure how it would play out if an ATV’er got hurt and tried to sue.
It would be nice if we could get a bunch of trails through this area for ATV’s. It would bring a ton of business. Man do they do a number on the ground though, especially during the spring and after a rainfall. It would be a lot of work to constantly maintain them.
Depends where the trails are, some are rutted and when they get to bad I fix them. I like the challenge when riding.
I agree, I think it’s more fun to ride the ruts and water holes, but when it’s a dual snowmobile/ATV trail, it will be a bitch to fix it every fall. Those holes get pretty deep. We have multi use trails here in Pendleton and the trails that go through the woods that don’t get to dry out often, are a disaster come fall.
They just closed a main section to ATV’s this spring and there’s no way to get to ship n shore or Uncle G’s anymore. Sucks, but I guess there were problems with people not staying on the trail. I do think it’s still open to Snowmobiles in the winter though. Unfortunately, it only takes 1 guy to do something he shouldn’t to give a bad name to the rest of the rule abiding riders. That goes for ATV’s and Snowmobiles.
Which section?
The difference is the amount of damage caused. Landowners get upset when the snowmobiles go off trail, understandably, but for the most part a few weeks into spring and you can’t tell where the sleds went. ATV’s going off trail is a whole different story with the messes they create.
