Genesee County snow seekers... Members?

the section that runs from Brauer’s on Campbell and comes out at the park at the end of Irish Rd. Im surprised it lasted as long as it did. Used to be a good little ride back when I was a kid.

Yes and no. Mostly because we aren’t given the opportunity to do anything about fixing it and they just get worse and worse. Either way it does only take one person to ruin it. Sleds ruin winter crop riding alot without enough snow. Not so fixable. If atv ruts get to bad they can be repaired.

Yeah, definitely sucks because it was a great little ride. Now there’s pretty much nothing to ride on besides the old railroad and the power lines, which are technically posted.

I agree, with winter crops as the exception in snowmobiling, ATV’s do far more damage to the ground itself.

Some idiots go off marked trails which is where it all starts, especially in planted fields the farmers go apeshit. Stay on the trail and everyones happy. Always one or two make it a huge problem.

Ok, gotcha. Yeah, I can see it on an aerial map. Looks like it was pretty cool.

^^trails in Pendleton that are open to wheeled vehicles are probably a quarter of what they used to be. you can thank all the yuppies and developments coming in. part of why it doesn’t bother me one bit that I don’t have a wheeler any more. nowhere to go.

as for the original topic, quads shouldn’t be on sled trails. not only are the clubs not insured to cover quads, but quads can cause dangerous conditions for sleds. try riding down a trail after refreezing in the evening when a quad rode through on a warm day. that’ll cause the skis to dart all over and catch the ruts in the snow and will keep pulling the sled all over. this is why most snowmobiliers don’t like quads on trails. that being said, if those quads are the landowner that owns the property the sled trail goes through and they are negatively commenting towards the owner, then that trail should be closed.

I would expect landowners and those running the club to know each other considering they are required to have an agreement to have the trail there in the first place, otherwise it would be trespassing. Which means this shouldn’t happen at all. I’m thinking the land in question is a different section of land than what the OP is referring to and he may just be over reacting. Unless its in regards to your land, don’t worry about it.

and yes quads cause more damage to the ground than sleds do.

Well said.

My land wasn’t damaged.
I don’t have a sled.
This trail system runs through my property.
They are singling out atv riders all as bad.

That’s not what their post said.

Yeah, I’m not sure what’s got you so pissy here. They said most, not all, and that’s a fair categorization. The simply fact that quads are out there on trails they shouldn’t be on alone is enough to say most of them are assholes. The exceptions are the few like you who actually own that small section of the trail which gives you 100% rights to be there.

The clubs have zero issues with landowners using quads on the trail when it’s one their property. The problem is 99% of the time when you see a quad on a snowmobile trail it’s not the landowner and the landowner doesn’t wan’t quads there. Snowmobile riders are quick to tell people on quads that they shouldn’t be there because most of the landowners who have gave permission to use the land were very adamant about it being for sled use only and if they see quads they’ll close the trail.

I guess I should have taken the time to screen shot the rest of the conversation. Every year I get stopped on my property, it’s by a drunk asshole threating to call the cops on me, kick my ass, ect.

That sucks but I doubt he’s actively involved with the club. In fact I bet if you took that issue to the club they would put the word out that a landowner on that section of the trail rides his quad there and if people hassle him the trail will get shut down. I’ve seen several clubs do this in the past.

Your big problem seems to be with the fact that the clubs feels most quad riders who ride in NYS are assholes. I don’t think you’re ever going to change that opinion because it’s more fact than opinion. WNY has almost no legal quad trails but we have quads riding lots of sled trails. MOST have no permission to be there, making them assholes. Most is not the same as all and you fall into that small percentage who are riding where you have a right to be there. It not right you get hassled for it but that’s more the fault of all the assholes who ride quads where they shouldn’t than the people who are trying to keep illegal trespassers off trails. I’d be pissed to if some drunk asshole was harassing me about riding my own land, but again, I’m sure the club would be more than happy to get the word about that.

then why haven’t you closed off your property to that section of trail already?

You’re correct, I won’t change my opinion about this club. I’ve talked about being harassed and nothing gets done. The section of trail across my property is technically Genesee County snow seekers on the map, but Erie County snow Packers maintains it. So we get the “oh well that’s not our problem” and nothing gets done.

What section are we talking about here? C4C up near 77? S48 near the thuway or C4D up by Owen Rd?

I’d have to look at the map. I don’t ride the trails to know the sections. I was speaking with member of Erie and was told the previous information.

I’m confused, and excuse me if I missed it but who are these guys hassling you? Are they members of the clubs?

probably not. i’ve rode through that area plenty of times(back when we used to get enough snow to go that far) and a lot of sleds go through there from multiple club sections.

btw, it is northern erie sno seekers or genesee snopackers. you got the names mixed up.

I suggest going to a meeting for whichever club maintains that trail and say something if you’re that bothered by it.

if it was me though, I wouldn’t have put up with getting harassed every year for being on my own land. I would have said fuck you and closed the trail. let them figure out a re route.

On the trail? No idea, there was a lot more harassment on the face book page that was deleted after I made a phone call. This really is no longer a concern as ive told them of a new trail I made years ago for hunting. The land was sold and we are no longer able to hunt it, but welcome to ride it. So a bridge will need to be built for the re route, this probably won’t get done this year, being hunting season and close to snow. So next year is fine, as I’d like to help with bridge building and placement for the atvs and sleds. An old friend stepped in from Erie, I was not aware he was a member. Things will be resolved.
