My cobalt SS has been in the shop for almost 3 weeks now. The roll pin that connects the shifting cable or linkage (whatever they use) to the transmission sheared off when I was driving it (when I went from nauetral to 1st at a stop sign ). The roll pin is only used I guess on the SS model and it supplier has them on back order
The worst part is they will not give me a rental car which is bull shit so now I have to take the fucking bus to work everyday I’m not pissed that it broke since it is a 1st model year car but after a long laundry list of things that are or went wrong on this car and me having to wait several weeks on a head gasket and now possible several more on a fucking ROLL PIN is what makes me pissed even so more when the damn dealership wont give me a fucking rental car.
Call 1-800-762-2737 (GM Customer Assistance Center). If a warrantied part breaks and they have to keep the car more than a day I’m 99% sure it’s GM policy to give you a loaner. I know for a fact it’s Pontiac’s policy, so I doubt Chevy is any different.
Edit:
Ooh… Chevy gives you the shaft compared to Pontiac. From the Chevy site…
COURTESY TRANSPORTATION
Ask your Chevrolet dealer for Courtesy Transportation if you leave your vehicle for extended repairs under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Ask if you qualify for expense reimbursement and/or vehicle rental. Services vary by dealer.
So it’s up to the dealer if you get a loaner. I’d still call the assistance center and bitch.
If I recall correctly they have to get those from SAAB…which is out of the country. If you checked the SS.net forum you would see it’s a very common problem when you drive the car hard/miss gear quite a bit…
Dam… Are are the cobolt’s this bad? I know someone with one and his stalled at a red light and wouldnt start, needed to be towed… And then had many many more problems with it, generally ones that caused the car to not operate… WTF?

Well I don’t miss gears but I do beat on it sometimes. I was pretty sure it was going to go sooner or later since sometimes the linkage would get hung up and wouldn’t want to go into go (must of been the roll pin) Then one day I went from neutral to first and nothing.
let me NOT get a rental when the car is new, under warranty and I am paying a car note. I wish a muthafucka would. We have never had a problem with ford not giving a car. hell, my dad has had cars for oil changes
Notice all dealers promise the world to get you to buy a car from them, but when you need something, there is always an excuse. As far as loaners, not Chevrolet policy, ( I used to work at Gilloglys, one of the best dealers around IMO. I worked for 4 GM dealers) some dealers will supply one to you, but that is internal policy. Try to get the sales person involved, they might be able to pull some dic… , I mean strings for ya. Good luck.
Dealerships will not rent out cars any more due to sue happy americans.
A while back someone got in a bad car accident in a rental car and sued the dealership… this happened quite a few times…why should the dealership carry that extra expensive insurance when they could just reimburse your rental (read:hurtz, enterprise ect) car fees? It’s a lot safer and cheaper that way.
If they won’t reimburs that…and your car is under warrenty then…F them
