SAUGERTIES — A Saugerties woman has been charged with robbing and spraying a man in the face with mace last month in an incident that resulted in the evacuation of the Comfort Inn on state Route 32, town police said.
Morgan L. Mcrae, 21, of 454 Malden Turnpike was arrested at about 2 p.m. Tuesday during a prostitution sting, police said.
Police said the sting was being done in conjunction with state police and the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.
During an interview, police said, Mcrae made admissions to being the person who took $250 from a man on Sept. 13 and then maced him to make her getaway from the motel. The spray left the victim and several occupants of the motel in severe pain, and the Comfort Inn had to be fully evacuated to clear the building of the noxious substance.
Members of the Centerville and Mount Marion fire departments, as well as the Kingston Fire Department Hazardous Material Team, responded to the incident, along with paramedics from Diaz Ambulance and Mobile Life Paramedics, police said.
Mcrae was charged with felony burglary and the misdemeanor of unlawfully possessing or selling noxious material. She was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail.
Mcrae was also charged by state police with prostitution, a misdemeanor. She was given a ticket to appear in Ulster Town Court on that charge.
