My girlfriend has a 96 Sunfire with the 2.2. It has been leaking coolant for a while and nothing is dripping on the ground. When it starts to get low the check coolant light will only come on when you are pressing the gas pedal, then after you let off in about 3 seconds it will go back off. I changed the oil and found no water/coolant in the oil. I am under the impression that it is the head gasket. If anyone knows what it might be please let me know, I don’t feel like changing a head gasket for no reason.
it could be a malfuctioning sensor.
Check to see if there is any blow by pressure coming out of the oil cap when you take it off. it could be coming out of the intake side of the head gasket, not the waterjacket side
those 2.2s are known to have that problem
head gaskit!!!

but if it were the headgasket u would have over heating problems and some sign of coolant in the oil…
check ur rad hoses for leaks and like someone else said…maybe ur sensor is just goin bad.
nono cast block alum.head makes gasket aroad away causes it to leak beteen head & block, buy the trans bellhousing, you’ll get nothing in oil or out the exhaust:D
I had a mysterious lcoolant leak on my sho. It was running down a pipe and dripping onto the cat, it was only leaking when the car was running and was burning off before any got to the ground. Was a PITA to find, but after a few weeks of looking I finally saw where the leak was. Get out the flashlight and start looking.

damn imported motor
GM put a special policy warrenty on the 95-97 cavs head gaskets, prolly the sunfires also because same motor… i know it was 100,000 warranty… id try to look into it… hope that helps.
also, when it’s running, pull the rad cap and see if there is bubbles or any sign of exhaust getting in the coolant… if it’s not in the oil, you are burning it.
do a pressure leakdown test
