GM bankrupt!!???

ah no shit… I work for them over in amherst

AIM?

nah

I just went to the advance auto website and looked up a few things for a 2005 VW Jetti with a 2.5L motor. For those who have never navigated their website, if a local location doesn’t have a particular part they will ship from a warehouse to your local location and it usually only takes a day. If it already is at a local location the desciption will say “buy online” and “pick-up today”, if it isn’t at a local location it will say “ships in 1 day” or “ships in 3 days”. The site uses your zip code to determine in-stock situations.

Here’s what I got when I looked for an alternator:

“No parts found”

Here’s what i got when I looked for fuel pump:

“No parts found”

Here’s what I got when I looked for Brake Rotor Front:

“ships in 1 day”

Good news though! They did have rear brake pads in stock! Available for pick up today! Yippie!

Oh, they also don’t stock coils, ignition stuff, front or rear shocks, springs, ya know, things like that, that sometimes wear out.

LOL where? I work on the docks. I prolly see your product everyday.

You’re picking a brand new vehicle!
Pick a 2006-2007 chevy tahoe and try to find some of this shit too. It’s not there.

You’re also talking about getting parts for cars that are IN warranty. I wouldn’t ever replace rear shocks or springs on my 2007 out of pocket. I have a warranty for a reason.

That’s great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and

This is some scary shit. GM has done so much right in the past few years to fix what was an uncompetitive business for the decade or so, but I think its just too late to save themselves now.

doah, I thought you meant aol instant messenger  :banghead:

Work for their engineering dept @ ridge lea (AC Compressors)

yeah!

Ehh lets not forget that my 400+ rwhp piece of american automotive shit gets better MPG then your Nazi sled. We had this talk remember? Shit turbo Ls1 SS gets over 20 mpg and his car is probably up over 800 rwhp with a 408CI V8 with an 88mm turbo charger. And the shit boxes i highlighted get better MPG then me. You realize the Z06 is 500 hp and gets 25mpg? Not to mention the LS3 vette which gets close to 30.

This is all water under the bridge because 99% of the retards on this forum will never admit to driving a pile of shit (of which 99% of the cars on here are, IMO) Oh and my Jeep has 154k miles and is running strong, my Chevy 2500 had 200k on it and all that was not orig were the brake lines. On the other hand, my Dad over the past 11 years has had a 1997 328I, 2003 M3, 2005 X5, and now some 5 series pile. the 328I was an electrical nightmare, the M3 blew the tranny at 48k miles, the X5 started gushing oil everywhere at 2500 miles on the way to Ohio, and thank God the latest car hasnt had a problem yet, but hes only had it 6 months. In my eperience, GM’s have treated me well, my Mustang on the other hand was a piece of shit :banghead:

I picked an '05 for the reason that it would most likely be in the 40,000 mile range and these parts would be starting to show some wear, like brakes, etc…

Since when do warranties cover pads and rotors?

My point that I was trying to make is that domestic car parts are extremely easy to come by, not so much with foreign cars.

I understand, a 2005 is the newest generation with the 2.5 5cyl though. The parts ARE indeed a PITA to get.

I’d love to buy american, but they really make it so difficult. they are plagued by bad luck, piss poor decisions and a faulty crystal ball.

American car companies are like the guy who brings a knife to a gun fight. so out of touch.

  • they killed the first real plug in car

  • a hockey mom needs a hummer? really??

  • a dollar short and a day late to the hybrid game

  • japanese read the us and world market better. they have flooded the market with reliable subcompacts (fit, versa, scion), just at a time when 14mpg jeeps sit on the lot. This is nothing new. This happened during the last gas crisis

  • the volt coupe was an interesting protoype, but have you seen the production sedan version? ugly as sin. toyota and honda will do it better.

  • and what’s on tap for innovation 2009 - 2011? Where is the R&D capital focused?? Retro styled muscle cars…right, that’ll work great. coupes that get crap mileage. When gas is $6 a gallon hockey mom tells the family they’re getting a civic, not the Trans Am.

Only manufacturer that as of late has made some strides with mainstream usa is ford…largely by copying tried and true import vehicles and their marketing (edge is clearly a murano rip off, flex a scion xb… marketing on the flex and the cobalt by the way, are straight out of the Scion playbook)…but who cares, its working.

Coupes that get crap mileage? The Camaro will be around 30mpg highway if you get a stick. That’s crap to you?

I’m really curious as to what uber-smart car you drive. I really have no idea.

Camaro… 1) will believe it when I see it, 2) even still, by then honda/toyota will be higher 3) muscle coupes are out of favor…sign of the times man.

and chill out dude, I never said I drove a “smart car”. Frankly I don’t know what the hell a “smart” car is…is that what you call a hybrid?
nyspeed is NOT the litmus of the nation. Take a pulse and you’ll see what people want to drive. Sadly, it’s not a muscle Coupe. Its a grocery getter that gets 30+mpg with 3rd row seating! Yeah people will lust over those vehicles, but that’s where it ends.

Remember the cliche middle aged guy buying his muscle car? Not anymore. Not during recession, not when gas is north of $3.50/gallon and the family needs food, not horsepower. It is the end of an era and has been for a while.

Couple thoughts:

I bought my cobalt last year it
Lost 2500 on value in one year

BWHAHAHA at the edit, so true.

For realz though the stupidity in this thread hurts my head.

I just came to say that vdubs suck

trauma, I agree with many of your points.
