i got a 350 in a 94 conversion van 150k miles and it runs like new…also have 3 3.8s in the family with no problems
your retarded…but i still love you
See thats whats nice about the 305s… run forever.
Whats not nice is that they are slow as piss.
Really!
If there is one thing GM does well, it’s engines. Not every single family and certainly not every single engine they ever made. But when they get it right, as they usually do, the really get it right. The LSx family is simply fantastic. On a hp/$ scale they are simply off the charts. They are efficient (have you noticed that the near 200mph Z06 pays no gas guzzler tax???) and the packging is excellent.
Using the LS7 as the prime example, compare it to the handfull of other 500hp engines in other street cars. Viper? Larger, heavier, less effiicient and probalby 50% more expensive. M5/6 motor? Threee or four times as expensive, harder to package. Ferrari? You gotta be kidding. beautiful engines, but you could buy damn near the whole Z06 for what one costs.
And so on. Whatever the guys problem is it’s not a general reflection on GM motors.
As much as I hate GM, I’ll agree with this a lot.
Thats not as much an engine thing as it is a transmission thing. CAGS is GM’s little trick to improve their EPA ratings. There is no way a 500hp 7.0L V8 isn’t sucking gas like crazy.
well in the 9 months i worked at basil we had to do at least 15-20 engines. the new uplanders are crap (3.5),3.1’s and 3.4’s suck, truck engines(pick your v8), trailblazers (4.2), diesels (6.6 or 6.5),and the northstars. all of them have way too many issues for this to be considered normal. this is simply gm not wanting to eat it’s ass on all of this. i’m a gm lover but right now they make no good vehicles.
hmm. my 3.8 L67 in the gtp runs like a champ, no knock, tick, nothing and has over 300 hp and over 400ft lbs. the STOCK L67 block is a Strong motor and has put a gtp into the 9’s and has seen well over 500hp with no problems. Many people have gone over 150k miles on one and have no problems.
You know a lot of people think their motors are knocking or tick-en when its actually the fuel injectors making the noise.
I’m not saying GM motors are the best but a lot of times things are misdiagnosed
3800’s nock? never heard of that before?
Not that i know of, have had so many in my family that ran flawlessly
No knocks in my long line of family owned GM’s
I can vouch for how hard this thing pulls. lol.
I love your car…and the V8 style insta-torque.
I laugh at that dudes decals and id love to agree because gm makes a lot of terrible cheap garbage. But, these threads make me nervous about my dads job…
 but yours pulls harder
i have herd some pretty horrible noises come from GM engines working at goodyear but most people reply “i don’t care its a lease” they might make good power but their longevity is not what they are known for… at least not at my work.
thats bull, my dads 5.7TBI in his suburban has 29x,xxx miles, my 5.7 vortec has 16x,xxx on the original power steering, alternator, starter and water pump(knocks on wood) Chevy truck motors do last a long time, the solution for the piston slap is a heavier weight oil, they are known for it, but they are not as common as people think.
my 3.1 does it cold , but then again it has 184k on it
