Go Daddy - is it shady?

i had a domain registered there from like 10 years ago that i never used.

on more than one occasion i tried to switch it away from go daddy and transfer to a different registrar… but GoDaddy blocked the transfer each time including just a few weeks ago.

then they auto renew the domains and charge my paypal account without getting approval including charging for unwanted services…

is that just how they do business?

i was able to call in and cancel everything, get a refund and shut the account down but just curious what other’s experience is with GoDaddy?

I’ve transfered quite a few domains from them with no issues. how did they block it?

domains are usually set to auto-renew by default same with hosting. You’ve probably already entered your Paypal information for previous purchases and if auto-renew is on, then it obviously needs a funding source. I’ve also transfered domains between godaddy users and between hosts. No problems for me.

Godaddy works and you should be able to transfer registrar’s without a fuss. With that said I would only use namecheap for new domains.

GoDaddy is awful. Move your domains to NameCheap.
