God i hate Mustangs......

Well not really, i <3 terminators but…

Well we got my friends 2003 Mustang GT up to the dyno, and the problems continue. Mods are as follows…

Vortech V-1 supercharger with 10lb pulley
Vortech power cooler after cooler
ford racing 42lb injectors
SVT focuspump
SCT big air MAF
SCT xcal2
75mmtb and plenum
MAC or H w/ flowmasters

car will not idle that well and is running PIG rich. On the one WOT pull that was attempted, the AFR was ok up until the car started making boost, then it went pig rich and power went in the toilet. Here is the video, you can see the smoke blow out. Horsepower was 226/281 lol which was reached around 3200 rpm’s. The car made 7.5 lbs of boost.

After this run the tune was adjusted a bit and Bob attempted to lean it out just a bit, the car did not like it one bit, and it was still pig rich:

This brought us to 5pm and quitting time for the day. Bob Kennedy believes the problem to lie with the MAF. The AF at idle is all over the board from 13 - 18 up and down. What do you guys think, any of the Mustang guys have similar issues?

Well I can tell you the first and 2nd mistakes…I will let someone else get the rest…

  1. It’s a Mustang

  2. Don’t let kennedys tune anything

Looks and sounds like something is wrong in the motor. Thats not “rich” smoke. Thats pistons going…WOAHHHHHHHHHH

motor was fine before this and is low miles, we hooked everything up as per the directions and had a flat bed take it to Kennedys, that doesnt make sense.

Just sounds down a cylinder

Did he buy these togather or seperate. What custom setting does he have, ie: 87-93 octane?
Bob should have been able to change the setting on the xcal2 during the dyno.

that motor sounds like ouch

have your friend do the bone stock Ls1 fbod mod and pick up 80rwhp over his current set up

fucking pay the money to let SCT tune the thing.

They could tune the car better through the mail with a chip than the tooners (sic) at kennedy’s can.

I would call SCT, they will send you a chip that will be a safe enough tune to get the car to their shop, and they can dial it in on the rollers.

Are you guys using that stupid vortech FMU?

haha

I don’t

don’t hate on the mustangs, he just has one too many cams…

no, he just has 2 few cams.

ALOT of mustang guys have issues with kennedys.

don’t get me wrong - they have to be turning out good builds / tunes to have been around this long.

Gonna be hard to diagnose via the internet.

That being said: was this a running combo before deciding to tune it?

kennedys have a bad rep i assume?

that doesnt sound like this engine is shot at all to be honest.

did you guys try unplugging the maf to see if it makes a difference??

is there a boost leak somewhere???

whats the fuel psi set at?

If you have the time, book the car in for a tune at DaSilvia Racing up in Toronto, Canada. Joe can be reached at http://www.mustangtoystore.com/

if the car is solidly put together (ie no cobble jobs, good fuel pump/wiring etc) take it here

Kennedy’s tuned my 99 just fine when i had it…BUT, if you want the absolute BEST tune for this car, give Don Lasota a call. Lasota’s racing…they are in OH. Don is the premier SCT tuner in the country.

However, the car sounds ill. Get the problems figured out. Don wont take a car in unless it is 100%.

I doubt its the MAF. If you have the big air, (i am assuming the BA2400) its good to 600hp. I had the same one and made 467 to the wheels, with zero problems.

Does this car have the cooling mod done for cylinder 8? Its the weakest cylinder, and the first to go, especially without the mod done. PM me for more info on it.

You = :bloated: or deaf

Lasota +1…

Or locally PM BigHands
