no shit … so you need a “chart” to really go out
Nice pickup Fry. River meets this summer for show. I won’t be alone out there now…
Thanks Jay. I’ll probably print that post. We’ll definitely have to go out sometime, although my father in law will probably be more than eager to show me around too. I’m not sure if he knows the fishing spots though…
Fry, need help paying it off? I know of a lucrative way to use this new investment to make some quick cash :mamoru:
NYSpeed boat meet! Woot!
Nice pick up. I miss boating. A few things right off the bad.
- Take a boater safety course, well worth the $ if its your first.
- Wax the boat before you go out. (prob. already know that)
- If you need any covers made, contact Sedlmeier on here, his father makes custom covers that are top notch.
- Have towing insurance on this! They are expensive if you need a tow…like $100’s of dollars, people don’t want to pay for it as part of there insurance and it is worth it.
- Pack a cooler with cold beer and enjoy!
Also you buy this from Bills Boats works?
I’ve been boating my entire life and have never owned a chart. There are some old skipper tricks to judge where obstacles are based on the current and how the surface waves react, but mostly you just go real slow while learning a new waterway. Once you find a rock bar it’s not like it will have moved the next time you go out.
But yeah, buying a chart and studying it works too. Really excited to try my iPhone chart plotting app this year.
EDIT:
About the towing insurance. BoatUS FTW. On water and trailer towing, plus 10% off at West Marine stores.
I agree but is the boater safety course really worth it? In my personal experience anyone with half a brain and some common sense will be just fine. Although i’ve been driving boats regularly since I was a wee little rascal so IDK…
What is so good about this course?
is t-pain going to join? His boat engine makes noise.
Running 2/2/2’s to/from Canada? Party boat rental? Everything’s legal in international waters. Someone point me to the nearest high school!
So I may rethink even bothering to spend $50 on a depth finder. JayS is probably right. So I’ll do the head unit. Gotta get a spare anchor. Call me anal but I’m not going out in a boat upstream of the niagara fucking falls without a spare anchor. Gotta get some tie off roaps and bumpers for the weekends when I just leave it at the in-laws. What else?
no you need to learn the waters and know what the fuck you are doing.
If I had a nickel for everytime I have run my boat up on ground, I’de a rich fuck. All dirt where I am from though, no rocks. Just pushing the boat out in ankle deep water lol.
Depth finders are a false sense of security. Although I love cruising over low waters and watching it go down. I have to be careful at the lake where I am keeping my boat now though. Apparently there are a lot of old tree stumps. That could really do some damage(aka sink my boat).
- Word.
- Word.
- They’re new.
- Done and done. $242/year for full coverage.
- Word.
Also, yes.
Do you have your license? Take the course. Get some spare life jackets to stash on board. Get your kit of needed on board items…
haha, you said roaps :picard:
ROAPS
explain this course hooplah to me…
The course is a joke(easy, but useful). I passed it when I was eight. According to my boater’s license I am 25 :snky:
Red right return, right of way, rope knots, life vests, safety equipment, nautical terminology, etc…
On second thought, some of you might have some trouble.
word. I don’t know the first thing about boating licenses and whatnot but my grandmother has owned a camp since I was born and I have been driving boats for YEARS.
Do I even need the course?
That spot under the peace bridge (left side) by the harbour Blowssss. I missed the entrance after a few (too many) and found out how shallow it is(like 3-4 inches) (theres a friggen rock ledge). I Also got the benefit of learning how to change an aplha one outdrive case due to cracks
Bills a good guy and knows his shit. Also its a line, not a rope.
And remember, if you anchor esp. in the river, always tie your anchor off the BOW! and make sure you tie it to the boat (sounds said, but have seen, heard this to many times of people not doing it) Sure you knew that already.
