you made a valid point, thanks for the info.
I’m all about saving money man. And if I get to save money AND not send some tax dollars to this fucking state all the better.
WOW pads and rotors for the mini-van for $130 shipped from that rock auto place, napa equivalents were $200+. Thx all.
Yeah autozone rotors and pads suck. Their rotors warp in like 2 months. And their pads scuff up the rotors.
I remember once i bought some ebay rotors, they outlasted the autozone trash. They were coated so they never rusted but i didn’t have a problem for 2 years.
Rockauto is pretty good, but there is times where their shipping is outrageous since the item you want could go from warehouse to warehouse.
I’d call Joe at NAPA (NYSpeed vendor) and see what he could do too. I remember buying rotors / pads for my Z just for a track day for about $100 a few years ago. Not sure the quality though as I just beat the crap out of them on track.
OK, I have a decent amount of history with this entire battle. First hand experience. I haven’t ordered from rockauto but I have checked it out and without a doubt in my mind, that is the best way to go. Autozone rotors absolutely suck suck suck suck. I’m talking light regular driving, expect 8-10k miles on a set of pads and rotors. That is really piss poor for a nicely drivin DD. If you want decent cheap rotors and don’t want to order online, Advanced Auto is usually a better choice. Now when I say decent, it’s still kinda shitty. A cheap set of rotors from advanced for my DD I’ve averaged about 16-20k miles out of them before they shit the bed. As for the pads at both places…the cheapo lifetime pads all kinda suck, but seriously, pads are like $20 for the set. If you want a better pad for DDs, get the wagner thermoquiets.
I like rockauto, on items like rotors or brake pads you aren’t going to save much money.
But you can choose the brandname that you want, instead of the mystery box experience at the parts stores.
The downfall is that you don’t get a warranty on the parts, and you would get a warrantied piece of shit at the parts stores.
You can save big money on larger items like gas tanks, electronic parts, etc…
I bought a ignition switch for my car for 50 percent less than what the dealer wanted for it, and it was the OEM part.
yea i ordered some ebay drilled and slotted rotors that were zinc coated or some shit with thier ceramic pad combo… they were like 189$ shipped, their fitment was good (it wasnt a typical “shitty” ebay car product) and they were shiny lol
thanks guys. just checked out rockauto and their prices are pretty good…only thing is there are so many rotors im lost now. HAHA
might end up getting some for the S2 while im here
thanks again
I don’t like to buy wear items online usually. I went through 2 or 3 sets of rotors this year. I kept taking them back to advance with massive cracks all over them from track day or from back roads cruising. The only time they gave me a hard time was when I handed them a set of rotors that was still blue and purple. "
RIP hawk HT-10 pads
trying to warranty something like that online would be a pain in the ass.
Ever think that maybe if you stopped by shitty advance rotors they wouldn’t be cracking though? My DBA’s held up to eating a set of EBC yellows at Dunnville and my GTO is heavier and I think putting down similar or more power than your SHO.
seriouly somedude, you need to get yourself some brembo blanks or something
my major rotor cracking issues came from the HT-10 pads. when I ran HP+ pads I would fade the pads before it could blue the rotor. I have to assume that the extreme temp is what is changing the hardness of the rotor causing the cracking. I may try brembo rotors if we have a track to race at again otherwise I will just keep a less aggressive pad on the car. I did not enjoy scraping rotor dust out of my rim every couple weeks from the other pads anyway. Apparently others got to admire the crazy sparks though.
part of my issue is driver failure too. my mind set was I have sticky tires, and fantastic brakes (when I was running the 13" setup) and since my brakes are not fading out I just kept pushing harder and harder. Then I would admire the rainbow that was my front brakes in the pits. Probably not the best way to go about a track day. My brake issues are mostly on my stock 1990 SHO. it is about 3400lbs and maybe 180-185whp IF the engine is healthy. So no your GTO has much more power.
better rotors, proper pad choice, more experienced driver mod
another vote here for rockauto.
