I use to go every opening day for brown trout, but my uncle always took me and i have no idea where the hot spots are he always use to go to. Anybody on here have any suggestions and directions?
did he touch you in the woods? and force you to go?
that would explain a lot
East otto has good spots… but ill touch you
my buddy says the dam near the lighthouse on Lake Ave. in Lancaster has bullhead all day long.
I actually just asked a guy I work with because he’s an avid flyfisherman. Like he teaches classes and knows the latin names of all the bugs the trout eat and all that crazy shit.
He started rattling off a ton of creeks, but the ones that stuck out in my mind are the East Coy and Wiscoy in Wyoming County. The nice thing about the wiscoy is that it’s not stocked by the DEC so all the fish are natural and healthy, not farm raised.
Or if you just want to catch fish, look up on the DEC’s website when and where they stock fish and fish within 150’ of bridges because (according to the above fly nut) the fish don’t move more than about 150’ away from where they are dumped. So if you fish farther away you will only catch the fewer and far between naturally spawned and/or holdovers from last year.
Now that i think about it, i’m sure there has to be like a pamphlet or something at Dick’s or Gander Mountain with maps/lists of good places, and what type of fish to expect to find there…when i go to renew my license today i’ll have to ask if such a thing exists…
I can’t remember…we would always get hammered first then decide who was the more sober of the two to drive there…
The steelhead/trout run has kinda died down the last few weeks. Now all the suckers, bullhead, bass, perch and northern from time to time are running.
William/Union cayuga section with the 2 lil falls is always fun at this time and same with the big damn by como at the lighthouse.
They stock that lil buffalo stream down william in lancaster but yea look at the DEC stocking places.
