Slumdog Millionaire or reservation drunk?
Still have your job? Too bad you don’t work for Patterson, you’d get a raise and be able to cook your bagels in his $200 toaster

As the state battles increasing economic troubles, word comes that Governor Paterson gave raises to his executive staff and spent thousands of dollars on refurbishing the executive mansion.
The governor maintains the raises were because he actually cut his staff, and those still remaining are handling a much bigger workload.
Here’s that breakdown:
Stacie Bennett went from making $38,723 to $53,000 effective October 30, 2008.
William Cunningham, Deputy Secretary to the Governor went from $170,000 to $178,500 effective October 24, 2008.
Ryan Dalton, Legal Assistant went from $44,558 to $52,000 effective August 7, 2008.
Michael Deloach, confidential assistant went from making $61,800 to $80,000 effective July 10, 2008.
Erin Donohue, confidential secretary, went from making $39,041 to $43,000 effective July 10, 2008.
Erin Duggan, press officer, went from $100,786 to $105, 786 effective September 4, 2008.
Brendan Fitzgerald, special office assistant, went from $74,263 to $90,000 effective December 11, 2008.
Jonathan Gunther, assistant appointments officer, went from $53, 045 to $70,000 effective November 13, 2008.
Jennica Hawkins, confidential secretary went from $55, 697 to $62,000 effective September 18, 2008.
Charlotte Hitchcock, confidential assistant, went from $160,000 to $178,000 effective October 24, 2008.
Morgan Hook, press assistant, went from $79,568 to $89,568 effective September 4, 2008.
Jeffrey Mans, assistant secretary to the governor went from $118,821 to $160,000 effective December 19, 2008.
Chardee Mendoza, confidential secretary went from $35,000 to $45,000 effective November 25, 2008.
Denise ODonnell, criminal justice director went from $159,135 to $165,000 effective February 2, 2009.
Lauren Passalacqua, confidential secretary went from $38,000 to $50,000 effective October 27, 2008.
Cassie Prugh, confidential assistant, went from $85,721 to $125,000 effective November 10, 2008.
Gaurav Vasisht, assistant counsel, went from $122,852 to $130,279 effective December 11, 2008.
According to the Office Of General Services, which manages the governor’s mansion and other landmarks says they were authorized expenses associated with the operation, maintenance, preservation and day to day functioning of the mansion.
A report in the New York Daily News says expenses totaled nearly $62,000, and included a $200 toaster, more than one-thousand dollars on wine glasses, $9,000 in new furniture, $800 on bedding, and another 12-hundred dollars for fabric.
OGS spokesman Brad Maione says there is a commercial kitchen in the mansion, and that Paterson often uses his home for official functions, legislative meetings and receptions. In addition, he says he opens the mansion’s doors to the public much more frequently. He says many of the expenses in the capital plan were in the fiscal 2007-08 budget which ended last April. Paterson took office in March, 2008.
Don’t know if this has been said yet but Gov Paterson also wants to put a tax on bowling? What the fuck is this about.
What is next taxing us for taking a shit?
Hell Yes! These people are a drain on the food supply, health care system, and fuel used to move their fat asses around.
Bowling and skiing.
I think he’s pissed he can’t participate. Those SNL skits of him are funnier every time I see them because this guy is a complete asshole controlling NYS.
who are these fggts that keep making up “hey, did you hear gov paterson wants to put a tax on …:insert daily life activity here:…?” rumors?
:lol::lol:
Not sure, but he wants to tax pop, cigarettes, activities, obesity, iPods, downloaded music, Spa visits, massages, sporting events, satellite tv, beer, taxi and bus rides, cow farts…
Is it really suprising if he really does want to tax bowling or skiing?
He honestly sounds like a miserable bastard that hates life and wants others to pay for all forms of enjoyment or necessities.
The Draconian plan calls for:
-
An “iTunes tax” of 4 percent on videos, music or pictures downloaded from the Internet.
-
A 4 percent tax on taxi, limo and bus rides. That means a $10 cab ride would cost 40 cents more.
-
A 4 percent entertainment tax on tickets to movies, concerts and sporting events. That would add nearly 50 cents to a $12 movie ticket or $1.80 to the cheapest $44.50 seat at a Knicks game.
-
The tax on beer increases 24 cents per gallon, or more than double the current rate, which means about 30 cents a case.
-
An 18 percent tax on nondiet soft drinks, which aims to reduce child obesity. A $1.50 can of Pepsi would then cost at least 25 cents more.
-
A 4 percent tax on cable TV and satellite services, raising a $100 bill by $4.
-
Hiking the cost of “personal” services - including haircuts, manicures, pedicures, massages and gym memberships - by 4 percent.
-
A 4 percent sales tax on clothing and shoes under $500, except for two weeks out of the year.
-
Elimination of the law that caps the state sales tax on gasoline at 8 cents per gallon.
- A 4 percent sales tax on clothing and shoes under $500, except for two weeks out of the year
thats because Paterson and other government officials can get cloths for $501 and not even realize they spent a dime.
why not tax the people buying $30,000 suits or maybe someone that is spending over $200 on clothing.
honestly anyone that buys a tshirt for over $50 is retarded and should be penalized with a tax, or how about pairs of jeans for $150. how about hitting up the people that can pay for higher priced things and not the lower priced objects
We have a HUGE FUCKING BUDGET DEFICIT because a huge chunk of tax money usually comes in as corporate taxes on Wall St. Guess what? Wall st. lost money this year and didn’t pay any taxes. Neither party will agree to cut spending. It is what it is. The state constitution requires a balanced budget.
How do YOU propose we close the gap, oh so smart ones of NYspeed?
Dude, I would start by not spending as much money.
They already tried that, state senate and assembly said no. They’re not cutting spending, for whatever reason. I’ll clarify.
The Legislature refuses to cut spending. It’s retarded, but out of your control and not an option. How do YOU propose we close the gap, oh so smart ones of NYspeed?
I really think we are already taxed enough.
I look at it like this. Keep raising the taxes and you will force people out of the state, which in turn (with NY’s way of thinking) leads to needing to raise more taxes.
No one thinks we need more taxes. But these stupid taxes he’s proposing, everyone knows they’ll never fly, but they’re designed to scare the legislature into cutting spending.
I’d start by getting rid of the democrat control of the state so we would be allowed to cut medicaid spending and union contracts.
But NY went the opposite direction, and now sits here acting baffled when we increase welfare and medicaid spending, unions get raises and our taxes go up.
This state = home of the :picard:
what is a “confidential assistant” and why is it worth $178k/year to me?
They need to think outside the box with this budget. Cali did it, we can too. My vote is to start with the proposals that don’t actually cost us money or services:
1.) Sell wine in grocery stores. There’s a bill in for it only being held up by the liquor store lobby.
2.) Legalize it. Stop the enforcement, prosecution, etc. costs and start bringing in the tax money. Particularly if Cali gets their measure through, this will fly a lot easier under the Obama administration than the last one.
As an extra boost to legalization efforts, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder hinted Feb. 25 that the Obama administration would stop federal raids on legal cannabis clubs in California, reversing a trend in marijuana regulation that peaked with the Bush administration’s ban on university-sponsored medical marijuana research.
Pres. Barack Obama seeks to lessen federal involvement in regulating drug use and instead delegate the responsibility to individual states, making marijuana usage a health issue, rather than a criminal one. Ammiano’s recent bill rightfully follows this trend, promoting the importance of individual responsibility.
Next:
-cut Medicaid costs. Both sides need to agree on this, it’s absolutely going nuts.
-Millionaires tax. Not so much on income, but on personal wealth. There’s people out there with millions of dollars but no official “income” that are skating around paying anything.
-Use the stimulus dollars effectively to create jobs and get people off of state assistance.
Bam. budget gap closed.
the tax dollars alone available on pot in both legalizing/taxing and not spending money going after people anymore are amazing.
This is going to be one of the more childish/uneducated posts in this thread, but it’s true.
HOW COME WHEN THE STATE FUCKS UP, THE CITIZENS, WHO HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE STATES FINANCIAL DECISIONS, ARE GOING TO GET BENT OVER BECAUSE THESE 6 FIGURE MAKING POLITICAL PEOPLE CAN’T GET THEIR SHIT STRAIGHT /rant
Kind of like the situation in Cali, could you imagine if YOU personally couldn’t afford your taxes this year, so you wrote a letter to the state saying “i’m sorry, i’ve had a rough year, i’ll pay you my taxes in 6 months when I get the money.”
Because you touch yourself at night.
