GS500 jetting advice

My Virago has CV carbs with a diaphragm that lifts and lowers the needle. The air that leads to the diaphragm must be undisturbed or it will cause all sorts of problems.

New carbs.

  1. 2 new slides + 2 new diaphragms = 140 dollars
  2. 2 new carbs = 668 dollars

Buying parts one at a time would have proven too costly. I’d have spent that much eventually on parts.

The main reason for this purchase was that the phenolic inserts in the old carb bodies were worn. This made the slides to bind and operate slowly in addition to and combined with worn slides with incorrect vacuum ports on the slides caused a rich condition I could not circumvent by any means. The inserts are a non-purchasable item, unless you buy a new carb.

Jack up the gas cap and replace the bike? That’s what I’m in the process of doing.

I swapped the new carbs in and it idles, pulls from low rpm and doesn’t starve in upper RPM range at extended riding. No plug fouling, no hesitation, no bad riding characteristics. It’s just about 100%, just need to do a carb sync (it’s damn close by eyeballing it right now). Two new carbs ftw

congrats. glad to hear
