GSR Swap

I am buying a 94 Civic EX coupe and putting a GSR in it… do I need to change out the axles to B series. I was told this but I honestly have no idea. If I do why?

If I buy a 94 Civic EX coupe and put a GSR in it do I have to replace the axles, why??? Thanks.

yes you do need to change out the axles.
the Bseries uses an intermidate shaft to distribute the power and the D series uses a more cost efective one long and one short.

it has to do with fitment issues

your ex has a d series motor and tranny. That tranny uses one long and one short axel. Lame and cheap IMO. The GSR swap will be a B-series motor and tranny. This tranny design uses an intermediate shaft or midshaft then two more equal sized axels.

Also, not flaming, but if you are asking questions like this…are you planning on doing the swap yourself? I mean it’s pretty simple, but it’s not as simple as you may think. The wiring can sometimes be a pain in the ass. And you do realize you’ll need a different ECU and all that crap too right?

yea what he said

eg civic swaps are pretty straight forward. You need a b series shift linkage and axles. I suggest you use aftermarket mounts to stiffen it up a bit but you dont HAVE to. Other then that you’re set for buying parts… oh yea use your stock wiring harness if you are putting in a JDM motor.

you’ll probably need to do some tweeking with your exhaust too

but yea its a pretty simple swap

^ yup, different lenths.

You need to do more research on the “internet”, go over to honda-tech, or honda-swap. A little research will do the body good.

ok so u made 2 threads about the same exact thing? merging them together

yeah, I was kinda confused…When I posted my reply which is pretty much EXACTLY what mike said, I had the only reply to the thread. With whatever happened, I look like a retard sayin exactly the same as what mike said and not just saying word, ditto, i’m with stupid, etc.

Anyways, thanks for the info, I didn’t see my first post after i put it up, so i did it again, something F’d up on my computer at work. I’m not doing the motor swap myself, I’m getting some help and gonna learn a few things in the process, haven’t had time to research working 6am to 1030 pm every day to save up for mods… I’ve got all the parts for the swap, it was in my cousins civic hatch so im pulling it all with him and putting it in my car… I know what i need for the motor i just never heard of changing the axles, anyways, HOW MUCH will these replacement axles cost ballpark… Thanks again…

I know a decent amount about cars, but less about motors since my first car was a 00 5spd cavalier LS, the Honda is supposed to be a learning experience, I’ll be putting a lot of money into it… I’m finally getting a chance to play with a motor so we’ll see what happens, after I get the GSR in the next set of questions will be about a turbo

you might want to pick this book up

you may want to think about your goals now. if you go turbo you’ll want to use forged internals if you plan on making good power. which means you have to pull the motor out. although u can pull the stock, put in the gsr, pull the gsr to rebuild and put it back in. but thats a lot of work…

Deff. a good place to start, honda motors are probally the easiest to work or learn on. Good luck with the swap.

or he could make 400whp on a stock bottom end

if ur pulling the motor from your cousins hatch and putting it in ur civic then he should already have the axles. g/l

and drive it for a month or 2 before he beats the ring lands off the stock pistons
kinda pushing it with that number dont ya think?

Forged internals will probably come next summer for now im holding off on the Turbo but it will happen… Anyways I need to buy the new axles, my cousin needs his, so again any idea how much??? I actually got to go home over xmas break and take apart a F22 engine from my buddies accord it was pretty cool, so i know a lot about the honda engines, i’ve worked on them plenty, but not as much as I’d like especially if i’m going to be doing all that work on it… I want to know them inside and out and be able to trouble shoot myself… Thanks again for the help guys, hit me up with any more suggestions.
