Nissan’s responds to Porsche’s claim: http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=57410&vf=12
Personally I won’t be buying into Porsche’s claim (yet) simply because they claim their engineer can’t clock the same time as Nissan’s chief test driver Toshio Suzuki, a former F3000, JTCC, JGTC, Le Mans and F1 driver, who arguablely is a person with the most experience driving a R35 GT-R in the world.
May be Porsche should hire a better driver before they make their claim? and this is exactly why these ring times, while fun to know about them, are nothing more than PR stunts by manufacturers to sell cars. Most people will have trouble simply matching 0-60 or 1/4 mile times generated by auto manufacturers, let alone coming close to these ring times.
I’m thinking that the driver for porsche hasnt had enough practice in the GT R thats all…
:ninja…
: 29 seconds is an eternity. It isnt because Porsche’s driver cant figure out the GTR.
There have been dozens of companies to pit the porsche 911 turbo against the gtr and the GTR always wins. I guess nissan just payed them all off? There obviously is a lot more validity to Nissan’s claims than just the ring lap times. Look around at the comparisons, i haven’t seen a gtr get beat by a porsche 911 yet. on any track. everyone testing them are all saying the same things, even race car drivers. the gtr is more stable at higher speeds, the gtr’s gearbox is better, the gtr’s easier to drive, less turbo lag. get over it nissan designed a better car. Porsche is my favorite brand of car, but let it go.
ya thats wat i was thinking, im a porsche fan no doubt, but hell the GTR is one fuckin hell of a car and it seems like EVERY review is saying the GTR is WAY better
Well, there is also a lot of unknown factor from Porsche’s claim. Did they clock the time in a closed course like Nissan? or in traffic? That I would like to know.
To be honestly, if people want a 997 Turbo and can afford one they will buy one. If people want a GT-R, they will get the GT-R. If pure speed is the only thing that the person cares, then just get a Radical and be done with it…
