Porsche has just run its own back-to-back tests with the Japanese company’s GT-R supercar and says it could not get within 25 seconds of Nissan’s claimed record time of seven minutes 29 seconds in April.

but wasnt there a timed video they put out proving it?
Sounds lto me like a media covered run-off should settle it.
There is also a video of the Death Star over SF.
25 seconds is like a mile at those speeds. lol
There is also a video of the GTR vs a Vette ZR1 both showing times and where they were on the ring and something was fishy about the GTR vid.
I love it!
Sure, a GTR ran the time they claimed. Porsche is claiming (as many people predicted, MPD and myself included…) that the GTR had modifications over a stock GTR so it could run the killer 7:29 time. Slicks, more power, etc etc
its just like the road and track 10 car shootout where the GTR was like 3rd.
GTR fanbois are crying
Sucks to get pwned by a GM with shitty interior…
HAHAHA thats funny.
Did you not even try to read the article?
“This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car,” says August Achleitner, the 911 product chief for Porsche, speaking to the CARSguide at the Australian press preview of the latest 911 Cabrio.
“For us, it’s not clear how this time is possible. What we can imagine with this Nissan is they used other tyres.”
Stupid Porsche probably didn’t have it in “Race Mode” LOL
This is particularly funny since 90% of the pre-production release articles (motor trend, pop-sci, etc) about the GTR mentioned that Nissan specfically tested & tuned the car up against a porsche that they brought in solely for this…
As had been suspected. I dont deny it’s a potent machine, but it was definitely not a showroom stock car and many publications have been saying that the press cars are NOT stock. Also, if you follow ring times fairly religiously Horst is pretty much THE GUY when it comes to ring times:
Sportauto with the famous driver Horst has driven the new Skyline on N-ring.
7:50 — 157.787 km/h – Nissan GT-R, 480 PS/1750 kg, Horst von Saurma, partially wet track (sport auto 12/07)
Horst von Saurma, chief editor of sport auto magazine, completed about 100 kms with the new Nissan GT-R at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Best time he achieved was a 7:50 on a partiallly wet track especially at one of the key passages so called Kesselchen.
With all the electronic aids the handling is absolutely perfect, the driver doens´t feel how the drive-by-wire system really works as the GT-R stay on track like on rails, always has grip, doesn´t lose control, higly computerized and a perfect racer for the street. A time less than 7:40 is pretty much optimistic, 7:50 shows the true potential of the car. And when the price stays at the announced level, it is a real bargain.
Not like this is unprecedented, or even uncommon in recent history…
Many many manufacturers were known to do this, however it’s pretty funy to see all of the bandwagoners get their panties in a twist about it, in this case
lol
I am not surprised at all
Verified Stock reviews would be super… I guess that will never happen.
Yeah, just think, Nissan did this with the 300zx too!
good, i hate that car. everyone please put your skyline of boners away.
But… but it defys physics!
