How could you hate one of the best bands in world history. If you see U2 live you will totaly change your mind about them. You should go to a U2 concert you will love them, I have been to 2 U2 concerts one in New York and one in Toronto and my third one will be in Dublin Ireland. They always put on the best show in front of their home town.

Shite songs? Dude your way off. You have to be a U2 fan or a close listener to realy understand their songs. Most their songs have deep meanings to them and some people have to listen to some of their songs a few times to really get the true meaning of a song.
Keep in mind U2 has been rated the second best band of all time in the world, they are up there with the rolling stones and the beatles not that the music from the rolling stones or the beatles can even compare to U2’s style of music because their generations are far apart, but as for records sold and popularity they are up there.
And plus how many bands out there donate so much to charities and host charity concerts and get politicaly involved in political issues to help put an end to poverty and diseases?
I think even if people are not U2 fans they do have to respect the fact that a few friends from southern Ireland started writing songs in their homes and put a little band together in a garage that was playing songs in Irish pubs in Dublin in Irelands worse time while people in Ireland were being killed because of their political beliefs and they were killing each other just because one was from the North and the other is from the South and yet U2 went through it all and still managed to become one of the bigest bands in the world and they have been entertaning the world since the early 80’s. They have been around for over 20 years and they are constantly coming out with record hits and constantly sell out concerts so even if you don’t like U2 I think they deserve respect.

I’m a big music buff and I listen to the music, not the lyrics. In fact, I don’t know the lyrics to a single song except for the off word here and there if its significant to the melody and the odd chorus of a song if its just one of those catchy things…
but honestly - most people who REALLY listen to music the way its meant to be listened to… and dont listen to garbage like U2… they listen to the music… not the lyrics 
i dont know the “meaning” to a single song either
