h1 bulbs

looking for the brightest h1 bulb company… non hid. does any one have exp with piaa products?

I haven’t had any complaints… though i’ve had them burn out on me before…

shit burns out fast. But then again anything with a higher wattage will… I have noticed no real difference between Sylvania or PIAA or Hella…

I think that PIAAs are not worth the money, but I guess it depends on the look you want.

I really like Silverstar/Silverstar Ultras and you can get em on eBay cheap.

I heard those phillips nighthawks or something like that work really good and last long.

any reason why you dont want to spend $80 on a HID kit?

I have Nokya’s in my Ferio… they are quality.

from what i understand the HID, are really not purposefully in projection lighting… just scatter the light all over. I have trouble seeing at night, and in the mazda 6, the stock lighting sux bad… what sux is they dont make the ultras in the h1…unless im missing it in my research.

Well it depends. I know that the Mazda3’s all have projector/HID ready headlights. I also thought that the output from the 3 was horrible when I got it, so I bought an inexpensive HID kit and now I can see much better. Since the headlamp assemblies are already projector, you won’t have a problem with scattering light and blinding oncoming drivers. My HID’s have a clean cutoff line and I’m not blinding anyone.

I think the Mazda6 headlights might have a similar setup. The install was really easy (got some held from the Jeans and Fattimsp since they had done it before). You just replace the bulbs and find somewhere to mount the ballasts.

its a 2006 mazda 6i, would there be any issues with heat, but i was considering the upgrade. do you have any night pics, or pics of the lens setup?

Thank you for the help

Don’t have any on my computer here at work, but if I remember I will try to post them tonight.

I don’t think heat will be an issue, I don’t notice the headlights being any warmer than they used to be. I’ll do a little research and see if the mazda6i has the same headlight setup.

awesome… thanks man, i have to replace the front nose so i am doing this all at once, while its all apart!

HID bulbs arent as hot as halogen. its a night and day difference.

PM me and I’ll tell you where I’ve got all my kits from. ( Their around $80 with a 3 year warranty )

Here is a link to the thread I started on the Mazda3 forum that I go to. Sounds like the lenses and such are the same in the Mazda3 and Mazda6 headlights. FYI you will definitely want to do this while your bumper is off already. That was the hardest part of doing the install for us.

I guess this would require 2 kits one for the highs, 1 for the lows?

That is up to you. I only did my lows. I can see better with my lows now (w/ HID) than I could see with my stock lows and highs on. I didn’t feel the need to make my high’s HID since the lows are so bright.

I got a 55W kit as opposed to the 35W. The 55W are way brighter than the 35W kits. I also got 6000K bulbs. 5000K are supposed to be pretty close to stock coloring, the 6000K have the slightest blue tint to them (not the ricer blue or purple). I would go with either 5000K or 6000K.

kit name or brand?

I got mine from a sponsor on mazda3forums.com. The sponsor’s site is TheRPMstore.com. I think I got them for about $100 with a lifetime warranty (whatever that means). The brand name that they were selling at the time was Apexcone but they have a few different brands. I have been extremely happy with them. I’ve had them on for about a year now I think.

EDIT: They deal mostly with Mazda vehicles. Here is a link to their HID kit for the mazda6:

in reading this. it seems like all the connesctions are already made . do I need that relay option? and im guess the light fits right into the socket

On the mazda3 it was as simple as unplugging the stock wires from the bulbs and plugging that wire into the ballast. Then we took the stock bulb out of the housing and put the HID bulb in and plugged it into the ballast. Once we had the bumper off it probably only took us about 20 minutes max.

I did not get the relay option. I just got the standard plug and play harness that is included.

awesome!
