So I have been thinking that it is time for us to have a large drink some beers meet. I know that there are plenty of you that drink beer, and why not drink good beer and lots of it. Looking at the Gordon Biersch site we can have a happy hour there any night of the week with an “open bar” (no liquor just beer and wine) for 2 hours at $25.00 per head. That includes tip (and what ever it doesn’t I will cover).
Beers: Golden Export
a dry finish. Export-style premium beer was first brewed in Dortmund,
Germany in the 1870’s and quickly became a favorite for exporting to neighboring regions. Hefeweizen
Hefeweizen (Hay-fa-vite-sen) is an effervescent, top-fermented wheat beer served unfiltered. Because of the specialty
yeast used in the brewing process, this beer’s aroma suggests hints of banana and clove. Czech Pilsner
The original pale lager, first brewed in 1842 and it revolutionized the brewing world, as we know it today. Gordon Biersch Czech Pilsner is a Bohemian style Pilsner. Golden hued, medium bodied, accented with a spicy hop character. It
is brewed using the traditional decoction style brewing method. Märzen
A smooth, medium-bodied, auburn lager. Märzen (Maert-zen) means “March” in German; it was named from the
Bavarian tradition that it is brewed during the month of March and stored in caves to be consumed in warmer weather.
It is a medium-hopped lager with a mildly sweet finish. Schwarzbier
This lager’s name literally means “black beer” in German and although the color may traditionally suggest a heavier
body, ours boasts a light body with a chocolate finish. The Schwarzbier has won a gold medal at the 2006 World Beer
Cup and a gold medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival. Seasonal Beer Selection
Watch for our seasonal beers brewed fresh year round. Each season we offer a special beer that we feel embraces the
season and adds a unique flavor and spirit. Enjoy our traditional German-style beer and anticipate our innovative
seasonal blends.
Whiskey, water sure. This is only good if we are not going during their happy hour times. If we were to go on a mon-fri between 4-6, beers are $2 off and that is a better deal i think.
Gordon Biersch does beer right for sure. Theyre one of the few places in the US who truly follows the Reinheitsgebot and as a result, they have one of the best brews around.
Interested, though the happy hour would be a wash dollar wise for me. If I’m drinking really good beer I’m in no rush, so in 2 hours I’d probably drink 3 craft beers, maybe 4. 25/3 = $8/beer. I’m guessing that’s about what a beer at this place runs anyway? Just something to think about if the happy hour starts to look like more organizational trouble than it’s worth. I’d happily do the $25 dollar happy hour if that’s what works out too.
That’s what I was thinking, and why it only makes sense if we are doing this outside of the 4-6 hours. Beers are about $6 I believe so with $2 off that makes them cheaper to buy individually. Outside of their happy hour with $6-7 beers, the $25 is a great deal if you drink 4 beers in two hours. Their golden export is also just a drinkable beer, but why not drink better beer. Oh, well, when in Rome!
