How do you hardwire something into the fuse box on a Honda? I want to hardwire my police scanner into it but dont know how to do it.
I dont have alot of Honda experience… but most 12vdc systems are the same.
Do You know the requirements of the scanner? Just 1 +, 1 -, how much current draw?
No. It came with a hardwireing kit that has an inline fuse. It just says to wire it into a 12v source and a ground.
wire it into the 12v and ground on ur cd player, or even dashboard clock or something, kinda ghetto? who cares if it works?
wiring should never be done ghetto… it’s wiring.
You want this unit switched with the ignition, right? (no power when ignition off).
-or-
Does it need a constant power supply to remember settings? Like a head unit?
I want it switched so that it turns on when the car comes on. I know that you can do it in the fuse box and thats where I want to run it, I just dont know exactly how.
Get a test light and see which spare slots in your fuse block light up when you turn your assessories on. There are usually a couple extras in there.
Then get a small crimp-on spade, crimp it onto the wire with the fuse and plug the spade into the slot you found in the fuse block.
This makes it totally removable if you ever decide to part with the car.
As far as grounding goes, take your pick!!!
if your looking for switched in the fusebox u can’t really go wrong with the windsheild wiper fuse
i thought i saw something once where it was a fuse but it had a wire comming off of it to connect to an accessory…maybe i was dreaming…i dunno…but yea find an empty slot…or some like like power windows or wipers…even radio
yeah, kind of. they have those things at Harbor Freight (of all places) and pep boys has them as well…basically what it is, is a fuse that goes into a fuse slot but it has a space for another fuse in it and then a wire coming off of it to supply power. so basically all you have to do is ground it to something and u r good to go and there is no wire splicing involved. i have not actually used one of these things but i have seen them b4.
so i am not crazy…sounds like the simplest solution to me
yeah and those things are dirt cheap too- like $5 i think. o yeah and they come in all kinds of different amperges so its easy to find exactly what you need
thats what i did with my gauges
there isnt a way to run the wires behind the fuse box and in? I dont want to have wires just run into the front of the fuse box so that every time I open up the fuse cover, There are wires just chillin there. I want it to be as clean as possible
Just go to an accessory lead from the ignition switch. That’s the simplest, cleanest install. Just drop the knee bolster and look in there. Thnere will be a group of larger wires. Get a test light and check for one that’s switched w/ the key. Strip the wire back. Wrap yours either around it or spread the wire and run yours through it then around it. Tape it up and you have a permanent connection. Since the wire your running is already fused this is the best and easiest way to do it. There are also a ton of ground points wnder the dash so you can run both wires to roughly the same spot.
yeah this is similar to what i said to do. sometimes i find it easier just to splice into the ignition wire that goes into a cd player, then u can splice that ground as well and run the wires as u need them
or find the accesory to ur radio that work. i ran a wire through my fusebox for my cd player of course mty fusebox is directly under my cd player.
the honda fuse box has 5 aux power supplies. 1 constant, 2 ign, and 2 acc.
they are at the top of the fuse box.
they are there for a reason. that is the simplest and easiest way to do it.
post what honda you have, and i will tell you what page in the helms the info you need is.
I have a 98 Prelude
take your pick… A, B, C, D should all be 12v sources
