Has anybody even seen a ring like this on a Pressure plate?

same here, great reviews all around,

good luck with this

wow, that is great! is that like the round hole square peg thing?

who put the glob of elec. tape on there, what about those O2 wires…

<3 brings a smile to my face having a 6spd M3

the is the ONLY time i have hated having a SMG car…

I just ordered it yesterday, but I paid less for it new than an OEM clutch.

EDIT: and its not due to the high HP, it was recommended by a few people who run E46 as track cars for a track/street application. It can take the abuse with out retaining the heat as much.

SMG may be quicker shifts, but I don’t find it nearly as enjoyable.

Now that you figured it out, can you change the title so it’s grammatically correct?

Has anybody seen…
Anyone (ever?) see…

Cant you just take the hydraulics off and put a shifter on the end and have a real smg? (I’m sure its not that easy, but possible)

I have heard of it being done, maybe by 4ngie on e46f?

He’s kind of, ya know, missing a pedal…

It looks like the pressure plate from(i cant remeber which car, maybe an mitzu eclipse)but the tob locks into the pressure plate, and it pulls the pressure plate out instead of pushing it in to release it.They suck to get the tob released to get the trans out.Theres 2 tiny holes in the trans bell that you have to go through.I have done a few of them and its usually a tool flying experance.

i believe s2k have clutches with that ring also

No, the m3 is not a pull type clutch…

My tib had a pull clutch… what a PITA that was to get off… but @ least hyundai made it easy to get the Trans off before you had to release the TOB…

I wasnt saying yours uses a pull type pressure plate but the one they sent you looks like one.

can you explain how you think the dealer had no idea what was wrong?

i personally looked at your car. i got in, read your notes, pushed the car all the way to the back and into the shop. hooked it up, started on the 4 service functions required after clutch replacement.

the gt1 was unable to bleed the clutch slave cylinder(step 2 of 4). i figured maybe some extra air had gotten in somehow, so i tried a few more times with no success. i was able to perform the first service function, bleeding the hydraulic unit. i attempted the other 2 but since the vehicle wouldnt start i could not perform them.

at that point we contacted contact you and i got the ok to diagnose the problem. i pulled out the slave cylinder and found the release fork to be flopping around as if the throw out bearing had not been installed. maybe the incorrect flywheel was causing this, but i dont think that’s why it was just flapping around.

the slave cylinder was unable to bleed because it had no tension being applied to it. it was at its full extend position when installed and wasnt releasing the clutch.

not trying to be a dick, just explaining that the dealer did know what was going on.

thank u.that sounds great goff

i do give you a  to doing this on jackstands though, fuck that.

even though the pressure plate was incorrect, i should have been able to press on the clutch release fork and have tension on it, because it would be trying to release the clutch.

im thinking the fork may have been installed backwards, throw out bearing installed incorrectly, or the pivot on the right side of the tranny was broken off/missing.

I cheked the trans when I got it home, everything was in place, tob is brand new, and the fork never was moved/ disconnected. The tob was/is installed right, I think the master cyl would not bleed because it wasn’t touching the pp at full extension, I have a new one here as a backup if needed .

Sounds like they’re going to get you the right stuff tomorrow. Keep us posted when all is worked out.

Btw I wasn’t implying that you guys were 0 help, but nobody could have guessed that the pp was incorrect, I don’t think the fingers had any give.

yea you should have tension on the release fork with everything installed. when I pushed on it, it felt like it was super loose.

if everything I suggested is fine then it looks like the whole clutch kit is incorrect. I don’t think the ring on the pressure plate is this issue although it may cause problems. i think the clearance between tob and pp is too great. does the kit require a different tob?

if you lay the old clutch kit next to the new one, is the new one shorter? if it’s shorter than that’s why the tob doesn’t reach it to press on the pp
