I am buying a metal frame intex pool which is 15’ diameter. This is the exact pool. I have a good space in the yard to place it and will be cutting it to level tomorrow. I will be removing dirt from the high side to match the low side as I at least know that is the proper way to level for a pool.
My concern is that I would like to put an ~ 3/5" base of sand down. (my calculation is that the pool area is 254.34 SqFt and lowes sells a 1000’ bag of sand that is 9 CuFt… That makes the depth of sand over the area .61 or 3/5"). Anyhow the directions for the pool say not to place on sand as it can shift. I feel that this is for idiots that buy sand and use it as a leveling means for their sloped yard. I will be filling the surrounding area of the pool with crushed marble and supporting the pool with pavers tamped into the compacted soil.
The pavers and the stone will give the sand a means of support and the land being leveled with my makeshift transit should make the sand almost impossible to shift with the massive weight of the pool evenly bearing down upon it correct?
Any other ideas on a substrate for the pool that will keep the liner protected and give it a softer feel underfoot? Someone recommended thick carpet padding citing that their friend did it, but I can only imagine it will become quite disgusting and smelly from the water runoff.
Buy a real above ground pool? As long as you have a deck attached to it, even a small platform that’s wood (per most homeowners ins.) it’s covered if something happens as well.
We are going this route as it is much more temporary. Put up/Take down is a one hour process and when we move and rent this place out, I will just rake out the sand and drop sod to match the rest of the yard. Also this is a very economical solution for a house that I only have a couple more years at.
I like the deck suggestion, but I do not think that it is something That I can pull off. It is on the back of my property and is surrounded by drainage so if something were to happen, the yard would mitigate any damage to the house
lol I was just busting balls about above ground pools.
And back on topic I have only seen people put down sand you’re probably right about people trying to compensate for a not level grade before putting down sand.
I would imagine using a tamper on the soil after the grass is removed and using sand has to work pretty well.
Are you buying it from somewhere local that might have useful suggestions?
On the house comment I guess it depends on what you were looking for? Mine is larger and in a better school district.
LZ You do have me on the school district, not sure on SqFt. I have added and not re appraised. I am getting it online so no useful advice and I am sure any place local that would sell this is a pimply 17 yr old that I would never even ask. Tamper should help
King - Serious space constraints where it is going. We are pushing it out to the back of the yard so that we can have a nicer patio and grill area. My yard is all fenced in and this is between a garage and a fence so no one will ever even know it is there. It is cheap and cheesy, I think that was the concept when they hit the drawing board.
