last year my wife and i got pretty far along in the process of putting in a pool and then kind of gave up on it…so this year we decided we were going to get it put in even if we wouldn’t get to swim in it much - if at all - at this point in the year.
originally i had sited the pool a ways out from the house which would have required taking down quite a few trees but would avoid the main waste lines leading to my settling tank from the house and the pressure line heading around the house to the sand mound…the pool guy convinced me i would use and enjoy the pool more if it was closer…and its only PVC pipe right?
so the cutting began…
the previous owner, who was the original owner, apparently chose to grade the entire backyard with about 18"-24" of large river rock which must have cost a small fortune and took some time to clear away and pile up.
then we had to find the waste lines…of which there were 2 more than i was expecting…reroute around the pool and reattached to the septic tank
backfilled all the trenches and then dug out the hole for the pool…tons of shale about 2’ down…luckily the pool will sit on a relatively stable base.
ran a drain through the bottom of the hole over to a new sump which will be outfitted with a dewatering pump so that the pool doesn’t float away in a heavy rain…
base level installed, graded and compacted
cool “onion tank” for keeping pool fill water…supposedly this unit is retired from iraq…
unfortunately i had an appointment the morning the pool arrived… i ended up passing it on the road…which was difficult on my narrow, windy country road…i also missed them crane it into place, which i was hoping to see…but at least i didn’t come home to find it through my garage wall
backfilling, plumbing and electrical to continue this week. i’ve been promised they will be backfilled to the top and prepared for decking on friday… concrete coping and paver patio to commence next week.
that was the hope originally, but it has been a bit slower than expected

the pool manufacturer is trilogy pools. i did a good bit of research and it seemed like they had a pretty good track record… they just got bought out last year by viking pools who was one of my other front runners… i’m hoping getting bought out didn’t change anything but the available colors.
Easy in the winter and very safe. Also makes opening the pool easier as there are no leaves, animals, or other crap in the pool, just greenness. Some algicide and chlorine and a day or two and you have a clear pool again.
I am concerned about deer of which there are dozens around my property. there will be a fence that will hopefully keep them away. my neighbor has had 2 in his pool…one totally destroyed the liner trying to get out. that is part of the reason I went with fiberglass… I don’t want to ever have to replace a liner
I like how the dark blue turned out too…almost did black but we were worried it would look like a lagoon. It would have made for great reflections though
