has you opinion of patterson changed?

now that everybody hates him in the political world, it’s almost like he said F politics and has started doing a good job.

Highlights

Here are some of the major points made by Gov. David Paterson in his State of the State address on Wednesday:

Fiscal reform: Establishment of EmpireStat, a program to track the progress of state agencies. He reiterated his proposal for a cap on state spending. Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch will develop a four-year financial plan for the state.

Ethics proposal: Creation of an independent ethics commission and a public campaign-finance system; lowering of campaign contribution limits; and establishing some term limits. Lawmakers would be limited to six, two-year terms and statewide office holders to two, four-year terms.

Economic development: Paterson would replace the current beleaguered Empire Zone program with the Excelsior Jobs Program, which would focus tax breaks to high-tech and clean-energy companies. He announced $25 million to help create new industries and a program to help the financial sector.

Upstate cities: Paterson proposed the Sustainable Neighborhoods Project to fight urban decay and rid cities of vacant homes. The program would start in Buffalo and expand to other upstate cities, including Rochester and Syracuse.

““No longer are we going to run New York like a payday loan operation,” Paterson said, adding: “You have left me and other governors no choice. So whether it be by vetoes or delayed spending, I will not write bad checks and will not mortgage our children’s future.””

Liked before, like now, but still don’t want him to run next year. Everyone loves to hate on him and his rep is irreperably damaged, at least for the near future, but he’s usually just the messenger.

I think he would be a pretty decent governer if he didn’t have a legislature full of useless establishment pricks.

Blame it on legislature and unions (namely csea)

I hate the ethics stuff. I can’t take a cup of coffee from a contractor because that’s a bribe and thus a felony!

:word:

NY voters are too stupid though. They blame to governor and ignore the legislature.

  • The New York Post: In his State of the State Address yesterday, Gov. Paterson proposed a plan to end political corruption in New York – and lawmakers politely applauded. It was like the Mafia giving it up for a crackdown on organized crime.

:bigclap:

Vote all anti-incumbent. I know I will but will the majority of the NY populace…probably not.

edit poor choice of words in retrospect.

I’M SO TIRED OF HEARING THIS RETARDED STATEMENT!

Do you even know how that incumbent has been voting? You do know a bunch of them voted “no” on this last budget right?

Stupid statements like, “I’m voting for the other guy” is how NY ended up with Democrats running all three branches of government. And look how well our last budget worked out when you put three democrats alone in a room to work out the details.

If you’re going to vote get educated, find out what candidate matches your views, and vote. If you’re going to go in and just pull levers for “the other guy” do us a favor and stay the fuck home.

EDIT:
You know what the fastest way to reform NY would be? Put a real simple test about the candidate you’re voting for right on the ballot. Maybe ask how they voted on a big issue. If your answer is right your vote counts, if it’s not your vote doesn’t count and the voting machine hits you with the taser for trying to fuck up democracy for the rest of us.

That is your opinion Jay. That doesn’t necessarily mean you are correct, does it? Take a seat and chill out, interweb baddie.

He was forced into acting like he does, it is simple math. After seeing the lack of change though I am wondering why we even have a governor. I can’t wait for DC to step in at some point.(sarcasm) How long can NY go on like this? :bloated:

That is something I’ve mulled over quite a bit. I’m not sure if they could and would it be of any benefit?

No, it’s not an opinion, it’s simple fact. You can’t get good results just voting out incumbents without knowing where they stand on issues. If you honestly believe this is a good plan for voting you are the exact reason the state is in the horrible shape it’s in.

^Well at least that way there is a chance of things getting better. lol There is zero chance with the current crooks.

^^Well it was sarcasm, I really have no idea how the current DC would help because they are pretty much the same as the thieves we have in NY. Maybe DC could appoint a proven successful governor to NY and give him more power as well. lol

You make many assumptions based off of one statement Jay. None of which are true, but how could you know? I used the wrong word to try to convey what was on my mind. Re read my original post.

It makes less sense now. What does “all anti-incumbent” even mean?

People don’t seem to understand that voting is a responsibility as much as it is a right. A big part of that responsibility is taking the time to be educated about the candidates you’re voting for and not simply walking into a booth with idiotic mantras like, “vote out the incumbents”.

That is the original post Jay. I bolded the all because that wasnt meant to be there. Sometimes there is a disconnect between my brain and my mouth, or in this case, my fingers. It was a generalized statement aimed at the state not just upstate. If you feel that your representation isn’t pulling their weight, vote the incumbent out.

I agree with your view on voting as a right and responsibility. But only if they are “educated”. What I don’t agree with are assumptions stated more or less as fact.

I really think it would be easier to just move to another state.

You’re probably right. I came back from Norfolk to be with friends and fam.
