OK I’m looking for some advice from the techno junkies.
I’m looknig to buy my son an HD LCD tv, for his room. It’s main useage will be gaming, such as an X-Box360. The room measures 11 feet X 14 feet, it will be viewed accross the 11 feet.
What size should I be looking for?
What resolution?
Ect?
I don’t know of any 1080 panels 32" or smaller. I believe all are 720p.
Native = signal source displayed at true resolution, it has nothing to do with panel performance.
I have a 1080p 40" with 120hz (high frame rate) at a viewing distance of 15’. There’s very few formats that demonstrate the capability of this tv. I wouldn’t go any bigger than 40".
720 vs 1080 is your choice. 720 is good enough for game machines.
Spend your money on a set with a good contrast ratio.
keep an eye on the electronics stores circulars. i’m sure there’s gonna be more deals out there as christmas approaches. sears had some great deals last weekend on LGs. might be a good route to take.
i’m confused on why people point out what’s good enough? if you’re going to spend the money on a TV, at least buy what is ‘best’ for the industry… buying any tv (capable of) 1080 in 720 is a waste… i’m confused as to the reasoning anyone would have for not running the best resolution as possible, pertaining to clarity and signal…
i would say a 37" tv is the one you’d want… they are generally an easy size to shop (many brands produced in this size) and would fit the room great… it actually might be ‘big’ if the room is truly 11’ and you’re viewing within a few feet of that… i know my living room sounds about the same as your situation and i have a 42" tv… granted at 3 - 5 feet its a little over bearing, but at 7 - 10 feet it’s great.
I would ensure you get at minimum two HDMI ports and as many components as possible… i have two of each and both are filled leaving me swapping cables for gaming systems at times…
After remeasureing the room is truley 10ft X 10 10ft. As for mutliple ports, I don’t think there will be much swaping, as he only EVER play 360. Even those he has everything from a sega genisis, to the 360, the 360 is the only one ever used.
But anyhow, thanks for the info, I ended up buying one today. A guy I work with won one on a ticket that he didnt want. It is a 32", hd LCD, has more ports than I ever heard of, and is 1080i.
I picked it up for $250.00. He wanted some cash for new tires, and really didn’t want the TV.
