Headache after working out?

I never work out but I decided to tonight for lots of reasons. Did some crunches, curls, bench and pull downs then went for a jog. Still had a ton of energy so I went for a walk, maybe for a mile or so. Now my head is killing me. Is this what happens when you work out for the first time? I know I’m hydrated, I’ve been drinking plenty of water and pissing clear. I had a decent healthy meal around 9, chicken, vegetables and rice in ev olive oil and have been snacking a bit on sunflower seeds. What gives?

edit and for the record (looking at you newman) my girl cooked

You’re probably gonna die.

:run:

I usually get dull headaches after running :gotme:

could be coincidental and not causal. if you continue to work out and continue to get headaches, then you might have a legitimate concern.

did you take anything for the headache? did it work?

Here’s what WebMD said:

When you exercise, or exert yourself physically, the muscles of the head, neck, and scalp need more blood to circulate. This causes the blood vessels to swell, which can lead to a condition called exertional headaches.

Headaches that most frequently occur due to exercise or over-exertion include jogger’s headache and orgasmic headache (sex headache). While these may occur in isolation, they are most common in people who have an inherited susceptibility to migraine (one or both parents have migraines).

It has been found that most exertional headaches are benign and respond to usual headache treatments. Some exertional headaches are particularly responsive to Indocin (indomethacin), an anti-inflammatory drug available with a doctor’s prescription. Still, in order to rule out other medical causes – some of which can be life-threatening – a doctor should evaluate your headaches.

keep it up, i need to get back into it as well. if i stopped for a week or two b/c i was out of town ect, walking on the hamster wheel (treadmill/elliptical) used to give me a headache at times when first getting back into it.

If you never work out, and then suddenly did all that, it’s no wonder your body was not happy. You can’t judge it based on how tired/sore you feel right then and there, and use that to determine if you should do more. You have to ease into working out to see what your body can handle.

stroke? bah your fine.

Increased blood pressure is the cause of your headache. Check your bp pre-workout and post workout

Not uncommon. Happens to me sometimes. Seems to correlate with having drank a lot of coffee during the day, which would make sense since it’s a blood pressure thing.

Rock on with starting to work out again. Can’t be healthy without exercising, and if you don’t have your health you don’t have anything.

make sure you arent haaving a cup off coffee pre workout as it causes restrictions in the blood vessels. prior to my head surgery they would not allow any coffee for 48 hrs
