Hella H4 ECE (e-code) conversion

Swapped in some H4s today. Seem pretty good so far. I ordered them from John (Jammin1911) @ DIG.

They have much higher light output and a noticeably sharper cutoff than what they replaced.
Street signs and overhead signs are 10x brighter than with the old shit, but oncoming traffic isn’t being blinded.
Notice the upper right side of the pics with the overhead tree branch and how it’s lit up by the e-codes compared to the DOT pattern.

The euro-spec beam is also much more evenly distributed in comparison to the hot spots of the DOT units.

And there is zero trace of blue colour with the bulbs I went with, so no glare whatsoever!

Mind you neither set of lights were aimed with a machine so the pattern might still be a little off. I tried to stay to the low side for now until I can aim them properly (on a wall or with a mechanical aimer).

how much are these hella h4’s?
and i love the rust on the fender

with the upgraded bulbs I got they were about $160

with a standard H4 bulb theyd be about $100 for the pair

Looks hot Mike. I’d like to see a pic from the front in the daytime to see how the glass looks… just for curiosities sake

mmmmmmmmmm sexy…

Can’t wait to install mine!

mikes beater is hot. It carries BBQ’s and motors on the regular.

and water heaters!

damn, i was looking for a set of these a while ago and couldn’t find anyone who sells them, so i settled with the P-Mall specials lol…

Good shit Mike!

Great write-up and before/after pictures!

yeah these are awesome i used them on my s12, i bought them in stock from PI with discount, they are sweet.

how long do these bulbs last compared to the convetional stuff.

peace

these are really about the housings, they let you use regular h4 bulbs, instead of stupid sealed beam units, bulb life depends on the bulb you choose to run.

the Osram Hypers (70/65W) are rated for 400 hours, which is pretty good considering the output

they also make a Hyper in like 85/80W which is 200 hrs

or you can use a standard H4 bulb and get 450-500 hrs

a Sylvania Silverstar is 150 hours, by comparison

This thread is very helpful, especially with the comparison shots. I didn’t wanna go ricer blind you HID, but I wanted better lighting because honestly the stock lighting is terrible (on my car at least…). Now I know what to save up for in the future. Thanks spd-dmn (Mike? iirc from Bing’s meet).

I have to fix my highbeams, the low beams just turn off when I switch on the high’s. I’m pretty sure it’s the selector switch after some searching, sealed beam swapping, and multimeter testing. (NICO ftw!)
