Help ASAP: Question on Buying a 5.3L

So i have this way of picking up a complete 5.3L out of a suburban for $100.00

problem is, it ran outta oil. Dealership claims the mains are toast

well, for $100, is it worth it?

Edit: Its 100% plug and play, totally complete

and… the owner had the oil changed and they forgot to put oil in it again

Do it!

my question is, will i be buying a total peice, or am i making a sound investment.

I think WNY might be in store for a new domestiport

this motor will need a lot of machine work to make sure it’s good. trading apple for oranges … spend money on getting it machined and built or spend the money on a good running one and throw it in with bolt ons your call.
personally i think you’ll spend more this way.

^^ thats 100% what i was worried about

if it’s complete buy it and sell the parts off it … like the heads and misc. bull shit. make money then buy a good working setup. or buy a short block complete.

Its worth the gamble,I bet you could make a few hundred in parts alone if its complete.

win-win situation no matter what.

There will be a lot of parts in there unaffected by the lack of oil problem. I kinda assumed you’d be getting the entire long-block. Coil packs, intake, heads (maybe tiny valve guide wear), sensors, timing chain, water pump, etc…Lots of good stuff for real cheap. The block may actually be spotless too, hopefully the damage is just contained to the crank/bearings.

If it has worst case damage, you should beable to easly get that back in a few parts off it.

get this and your golden
