Alright soooooo… if anyone could help me ill be greatly appreciative! haha
Basically I got as far as removing the intake/exhaust manifold. Which is about half the work. Now it a little befuzzled because I know I need to bring piston #1 to TDC on the compression stroke and mark it on the timing chain. My question is a) how can you tell the piston is at TDC without that shop gauge thing and b) after I mark the chain, where can I loosen up the chain so I can remove it alongside with the head.
And if I what to put the head back on, aren’t the bolts, stretch bolts?, and ill get problems with them after… so will i need APR bolts for reassembly?
the easiest way to tell that the 1st piston is on TDC is to turn the crankshaft pulley until you match the marking on the block and the pulley. Then look at the lobes of the first 2 cams facing you. They should be 180degrees apart. That is, facing outwards. If they are facing each other, then you gotta turn the pulley another 360 degrees.
For the chain, you have to loosen both of the tensioners. The first one is easier, because it’s on top near the cam gears. The second one all the way on the bottom of the block. You basically have to remove everything in front of the block if you want to get to it. You’ll also have to remove the chain guides.
At least that’s my guess. I never had to remove the chain on my KA.
Best bet it to look at the FSM for exact locations and procedure.
