Store a trailer once you get there?

and then sell the fucking thing for what you paid for it. Cake.

Rabbit is the most reliable thing you could have to move with, vs. buying some ungodly unknown truck to drive cross-cuntry in. Buy something WIN once you get there, F trying to buy something cool in western NY.

Anything older is going to require maintenance and parts on some of the more obscure may be hard to find etc. Nothing puts a bummer on a good road trip like a broken truck. So for hauling purposes I’d buy something fairly new and dependable. That’s just me.

let me be clear that im trailering whatever i buy behind a uhaul. im not attempting to drive it across country.

Yeah I got that. You asked for help, that was my vote. I’ve hauled motorcycles in the bed of a truck all over the country, I prefer to not deal with BS on my haul vehicle. Especially when going on a road trip.

This was on ls1tech. Guy seems motivated to sell. Might be able to get it for 5-5.5k? If you are looking at around a 10k budget I would say that this think with 4-5k into it would be just about fully modernized and reliable.
If you don’t mind the paint I would say it just needs power disc brakes and a 4L60 or 80 trans (so you have overdrive). Est. 1.5k parts and maybe 1k labor if you didn’t want to deal with it.

This would be sweet and is something I would probably do for a cruising around town truck. However some form of project/old resto truck while rad as hell will probably never have the reliability of a new truck.

If you’re looking for anything older, wouldn’t you be better off buying it out west due to the rust factor? My Caddy drove fairly awkward when I hauled an old snowmobile, and a VW 1.7/trans on different occasions. The front end felt really light. I think '75 and older are smog exempt unless they’ve changed things. That’s all I’ve got.

Anyone else humored by the fact that he turned his minivan into a truck, and now needs a bigger vehicle for his family?

Very.

rabbit and hitch +1

im ordering a hitch for my sti next week and ditching the chevy

This thread is full of fggtry and stupidity. Buy a fucking Tacoma. Fuck buying some aborted project that will make you rip out your hair. If you consider buying another VW, you are a fggt. See that pile of shit VW truck? Look what it’s parked in front of-a repair shop. Go fucking figure.

sorry if my response came off snarky it wasnt my intention. i just wasnt sure if you were voting for a new truck cause you thought i would be trying to drive it across country.

yeah im looking all over the country but ill prob be leaving my vehicles plated in nys for a bit so i dont have to deal with smog tests just yet lol. also i think ive ruled out the idea of a mk1

yeah gennaro sent me that truck via email the other day. seems like a solid start but also seems like a lot of stuff left to do that i dont want to deal with.

yeah the black one in rochester is a really nice example of a c10. i am considering throwing a low ball cash offer to see if he bites otherwise ill prob end up getting something newer

i have no room for a trailer. i dont want to be burdened with going to a storage unit to hook up a trailer then drive back home and load up the bike(s). also i think it would be silly to drop $500 on a hitch then another $1-2k on a trailer.

dont worry big brother im looking into the tacoma or possibly a chevy colorado

Glad I already took care of all the LS powered ones posted  I like the Tacoma you sent me yesterday. I drove a couple of them, even one a tad older and you can tell the difference in quality vs a GM. Then again thats my opinion and coming from someone who has never owned a pickup truck.

if you consider a colorado…get the v8 version. that inline 5cyl is atrocious.

with info like this ill just go ahead and rule it out right now.

if i end up buying a newer truck im looking for a smaller 2wd truck with a somewhat fuel efficent engine

you’re pretty much limited to the tacoma or a nissan frontier at that point. you won’t be able to get a newish ford ranger 4cyl 2wd worth buying, and any GM small trucks pre-colorado/canyon are too old now.
