Help me find a real nice Camera - DSLR

Hey guys, ok so I have always had a point and shoot camera and they have all been Canon.
My Canon SD750 is about 3yrs old and I think its going. Its got some great features that I need in my next camera. The 2 biggest features I use is (1) opening the lense for a period of time. Ive seen others do this on here, cool pics and (2) time lapse. Instead of 30 frames a sec it takes 1 frame a sec and your video looks like its in fast forward. Pretty cool.
Im also looking to get into photography on the side. Another reason for getting a nice DSLR is because even though my SD750 point and shoot is a great camera, the pics JUST dont look compair to some of the pics ive see from a DSLR. With that being said…

Im looking to get into a entry level (unless there a great deal on a better camera for a little more $) DSLR. 10Meg or higher im thinking, must take video (1080 would be nice) must have those 2 features i talked about, and im also looking for a camera that can take rapid pics so i wont miss “that shot”. Good zoom etc etc

Ive been looking at Canon Rebels but theres so many.

What do you guys think

thanks guys

you really should do a search, this topic has been beaten like a dead horse

edit: i shoot with a D80. love it.

Nikon, FTW.
I always was a fan of Canon, but when I purchased a Nikon, I like it significantly more than any Canon I have used.
You can get a D7000 and if you don’t like it, I’ll gladly buy it from you for the depreciated value. lol

Im thinking of hitting up bestbuy to see them/hold them and go from there
where do you guys like to buy from…trying to avoid tax

www.beachcamera.com if you’re trying to avoid tax.

I had a nikon d40, canon xsi, and now a t1i. I prefer canon.

The Canon vs Nikon ‘my dicks bigger than yours’ debate on here is about as relevant as pitting the Honda Accord vs Toyota Camry.

the reason i swayed to nikon was cause lenses are a lot easier to get used and cheap. thats really what made my mind up.

i have a canon t1i and love it!, the t2i came out and i think its the same price just more features, i got mine from continental camera on transit just passed walden

Nikon D3100.

The ‘Good Zoom’ requirement isnt going to happen, however.
