Help me find a vehicle...

well I am looking into trading in my s10 (link). I dont drive it anymore and I am sick of paying for something I dont drive. And since no one wants to buy it I am looking to trade it in. I would like to get something 9k or less to keep payments manageable…

hows this? 1998 civic or another 98 civic

open to any offers or suggestions. my goal would be an e46 but i cant find any in my price range in the immediate area. (edit, found an auto 323, i know, auto; boo, 323; boo, but its a start i suppose)

if its a bmw it has to be 4 door w/black interior, if its a civic it has to be cheap. basically if im going to spend the money i want a bmw, other wise ill cheap out and get a civic.

i must be able to trade in my s10 so most private sales wont work unless they are in the market for a mint truck

help/offers/ideas/etc?

thanks

FYI: They’re probably only going to offer you 2-3K on a trade for your truck…

eeh, ive had serious offers of 5k…

you can buy an e36 M3… located in sig below

From dealers? Then you should take it and run. Especially if you’re only asking 6K for PP.

Then they’re making the money up somewhere else on the 4 square.

Don’t know what the 4 square is? Read:

From one of the most informative articles on the car dealer experience I’ve ever read:
http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/articles/42962/page001.html

EDIT:
And how many people cross shop Civics and 3 series? Figure out what kind of car you want and then start shopping.

i just want to move the s10 without having to roll much over. and if they play games with the numbers thats fine.

there are a lot of vehicles in my budget i would never buy. thus eliminating everything but the civic and the base boring 3 series. seems logical enough. if i have enough money to buy a decent 10k car i want it to be a bmw other wise ill take the hit and get the civic. i worked at holtz’s body shop for almost 2 years and i know both cars fairly well inside and out.

i already have a 93 hatch that runs fine with almost 260k on it, i just need to see that truck gone without killing myself.

next paycheck im going to lower the price on the s10 a bit, hopefully that solves all my worries…

for 9k you’ve got more options than a 323 and a civic:mamoru:

e36 m3?

ap1 with higher miles?

don’t buy a FUCKING CIVIC…

you’ll get $2500 for your truck, meaning you’ll have to roll in about $4500. That’s already added $90 to your payment. If you’re looking to be under $200 a month, you’ll have to find a $5000 car. Which at a dealership, isn’t happening. (Unless it’s a mom and pop corner lot, with 100,000 mile cars.)

If a dealership is showing you $5,000 for the truck, without inflating it through other means (MSRP)…then take it.

isnt that 4.3 faster then a stock civic?

right, but i dont want the other options. maaybe an a4, but besides that id rather sit on the s10.

ive almost got 2k saved up to pay off the difference on my truck. i am taking it to a few different dealerships this weekend. ill report back with what they can give me on my truck…

and i dont mind buying a civic or e46 with 100k miles on it…

While a lot of the information in that article is “true” to an extent…a lot of it is bullshit.

The four-square helps maximize profits, yes. However, the main reason it’s used is that it singles out objections right away. Some people care about trade in, and nothing else. Some people care about monthly payment and nothing else. 75% of buyers are payment buyers. When you present a four square, you can help figure out what is going to motivate the customer to buy…whether its payment, dp, price or trade. When you just present a cluster of numbers and no structure to it when the customer “has to think about it”, or just says “no, this isn’t going to work”…its always a hidden objection about price…and its much harder to get it out of them.

As far as maximizing profits go, why shouldn’t salespeople and dealerships be able to make $1,000 on a car? The only thing in the world that you can negotiate on is cars, and houses. You don’t go to the mall, and negotiate with Footlocker about the price of shoes? You pay it, knowing that Nike is making $100, on a $110 shoe.

The problem today is that they internet has taught buyers so much garbage its ridiculous. All these “supposed” invoice prices you can find on the internet for the new vehicle you are about to buy, is generally hundreds, if not thousands below the actual “invoice”. Consumer Reports even says in its reports, find out the invoice and pay 2-3% above that…for a good deal. Most customer’s nowadays are convinced that invoice is the best price…it’s not. Every one of these customers that wants to pay invoice for a vehicle, works for a company that makes profit’s on whatever it is they do. They however, feel its not fair for car dealer’s to make money…because they “take advantage of people”. Bullshit. Years ago, maybe. Not today with the BBB and so many makes and models available and the researching people can do on the internet. Today, if a dealership doesn’t treat people with dignity and respect, they are going to close their doors faster than they can kick people out.

The best part is when someone agrees to pay invoice and you provide them with the actual invoice and they don’t believe that it’s real…because it’s higher than they expected to pay. :mamoru:

PS - Even if you pay MSRP for a car, it’s not paying too much. You’re paying what the manufacturer believes should be the price of the vehicle.

You selling cars now? I thought you worked for the thruway?

MSRP is an inflated number. I realize it stands for Manufactures Suggested Retail Price, but every manufacturer fully expects people to haggle on the price of the car. The MSRP they put on the car takes that into account.

All smart sellers do it. They have a number in their head they’re willing to take and they inflate that number when listing the item knowing damn well people are going to see the price and offer something less than that. If you put the amount you want there is no room to negotiate and most people won’t buy if they don’t feel like they’re getting a deal, even if they are getting a deal.

I’m all for maximizing profit and I don’t think the 4 square is out to screw anyone. However, people who are only concerned with 1 square do get screwed by it. I’m a conservative remember, let the buyer beware.

One more thing… Right now the traditional rules are out the window. Car sales are WAY down, and tons of cars are sitting on dealer lots with their floor planning costs adding up day after day.

Watch the lots if you’re looking for a specific make/model and find one that’s been there a while. The dealer may be willing to make a deal that would have got you laughed out of the dealership 2 years ago.

Right, right and right.

I finished reading the article and I’m okay with it. I thought all they were going to talk about was high paced fast selling techniques which are bullshit anyways. You’re going to see a trend happening very soon. All these bullshit high pressure places are crashing to the ground…a few locally.

contact deathproof, he has a cobra mustang he would sell to you for about 10,500 and might give you say 4500 for the truck. giving you a 6K difference… just a thought…
