i just bought a harley sportster. its my first ever bike and need to buy a helmet. im a rather small adult, 5’5’’ and 130 pounds roughly… point me in any direction as to what to look for and what to avoid.
first off you may want to start using the “bikes” section of the forum…
as for helmets its all personal preference.
i have a shoei rf1000 for my triumph and i also have several 3/4 non DOT helmets for my when i cruise either of my harleys. oh and i just picked up a DOT biltwell gringo last weekend…its actually pretty comfortable and light weight for a $150 DOT lid…
i know newman has a TT & co which are super rad and i may even pick one of those up eventually too…
Shoi RF-1100 for a full face.
Just about any DOT egg shell for a half helmet as you don’t really get much protection.
Just go and try some on. Make sure you try shoei, bell, arai, icon etc. I tried quite a few before I found what truly fit my head. I have an icon airframe which is great except that it has wind noise when riding with the visor open.
I wear a 7 1/8 new era hat (though I seldom wear fitted hats due to the gangsters ruining it for me). Curved brim or not it looks too “young.” My Shoei rf-1000 is a size small and fits quite well.
I would like to pick up a 3/4 helmet. Was looking at Biltwell Novelty or whatever but even just cruising around the streets I feel I may want at least a DOT approved helmet. Was thinking of getting a Biltwell Bonanza, curious about sizing and how far they protrude.
