(Help) Xbox 360 problem

My brothers Xbox starts fine and runs fine, but will only play DVDs and CDs. When i put a game into it it says disk read error or no disk in drive…I called microsoft about the problem becouse it is still under warrenty but they said since it is not a software issue they will not cover it and it costs 100$$.

Anybody know hwo to fix this problem?
If so let me know!
If not i guess im spending 100$ or buying a new cd drive…

Alos has this happend to anyone else???

try cleaning the dvd lens

Happened to me too.

I bought a new Disk drive off ebay for $20. All I had to do was switch the old DVD drives’ circut board to the new DVD drive (so some codes match for the system recognize the new hardware) and it works great. You have to take apart the 360 to see wich drive you have before you buy the new one. There are some good how-to’s online, just gotta find them.

Yeh i was going to do this but i really want to save that for a last resort just because it will void my warranty…

google search how to clear your systems cache… sometimes that can cause that error.

Yeah I tried all of the Non-warranty breaking tricks before I went to ebay and obviously none worked at all.

not sure if clearing errors will fix it but.

two ways to clear errors. The easiest is to:

Hold the sync button on the xbox and press the power button. Keep holding it until the dashboard is completely loaded.

Doing it now…

So im guessing your talking about this?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JClXHeVMQhA&feature=related

Has that worked for you before?? I guess its worth a try.

Sounds like the laser is starting to go. Not sure how MS isn’t covering this under warranty though. If you really are under warranty I’d call back and bitch my way up the supervisor ladder until I got it replaced.

If you’re not under warranty you probably just need to adjust the pot to turn up the power on the laser. Not real hard if you know how to use an ohm meter but definitely not for the complete electronics hacking noob.

I personally have not done this yet… It will erase software updates but those can be downloaded again… My GOW1 and nhl 09 have started doing this so I am probably gonna give this a shot tonight.

Im going to try what supraman is saying 1st if that dont work then im going to try calling Microsoft again. Its been replaced twice already for the red ring but i still dont see why they wont take it…

I opened it to try and fix the disk player and cleaned it out. Now when i turn it on it is giving me an E 75 error with one red light in the bottom right corner…anybody have any ideas???

thats the dvd drive connection, open it back up and make sure it plugged in all the way

If it’s under warranty MS will cover it, unless it’s some shitty extended warranty.

How long since you first purchased it? Your 1 years warranty doesn’t keep resetting each time you get an RRoD refurb. Non-rrod issues still go off your original purchase date.

If it’s out of warranty and you’ve tried the simple things like compressed air blown in the drive and one of those lens cleaning disks I’d give this a shot:

If you read through that and you’re completely lost though don’t do it. When I had to do this on my b-inlaws drive I took it from 4.1 down to 3.2 and it’s read every disk he’s put in there since.
