Hey guys. I recently just changed my suspension and earlier today I turned on my cruise control(which worked perfectly fine before) and it didn’t turn on but my HICAS light did. Just wanted to know if anyone here might know what it might be before I go to Nissan to get a diagnostic. Thanks.
Well I can tell you that your cruise control isn’t connected at all to the HICAS system.
When the light comes on, you have one of two problems: A leak in the system, low fluid (or both) or you have some major mechanical or electrical problem with the system. If it’s not the fluid level, your best bet is probably to put tape over the red light and drive on. If it’s really important to you then expect to shell out a lot of cash, or swap in a new system from someone else’s car.
As far as cruise control goes, some things that can affect it are the switches in the dash and wheel, the speedometer, and the speed sensor. It could also be the brake pedal switch - when the pedal is not depressed, it presses against a pressure switch - pop your head under there and you should be able to see it. Sometimes you just have to push the button a couple times for it to come on, at least with mine.
Thanks I’ll check that but the HICAS light came on as soon as I pushed my cruise. So it seems like they’re connected in some way. Is there a fuse for the cruise control?.
Probably a speed sensor, because that’s the only thing I could really see effecting both.
Yeah, it’s a possibility, but then his speedo wouldn’t work. Have you noticed it being flaky at all?

Touche…
Well my car has got a lot of hesitation problems before 2500rpm I don’t know if that is related or not. If its not what would be causing that? My car has so much issues if it was anything else I would have trashed it by now.
Hesitation could be MAF related. If there are tons of things wrong with your car, goto a dealership and pay the ~$70 for a general inspection to eliminate the guesswork.
dude, it’s a 15 year old car… it’s gonna have issues. if your answer is to take it to Nissan to have it diagnosed, i say, cut your losses now and get rid of it… 'cuz they’ll quote you some ridiculous price to work on it that you won’t be prepared to pay… and you’re back to complaining about petty things like dummy lights and cruise control.
do us all a favour and buy something brand new with a warranty.
Buying new is a waste of money. My car has 350k on it but the body and paint is mint. Anyways thanks I’ll pickup a maf.
I can’t tell you it’s that FOR SURE, like I said, go get it looked at by whoever you usually take your car to (someone you trust). Brampton North Nissan is good, as is Midway Nissan (for east end guys) - they don’t bullshit you, they will tell you EVERYTHING that is wrong, but also will tell you what you should fix and what can wait.
I doubt that’s got to do with your speed sensor. The only problem you’ll encounter with a faulty speed sensor is that you ECU may cut the fuel at random times because it’s being given the wrong signal, and thinks you’re at 190km/h. This will generally only happen in 5th gear, and that wouldn’t cause hesitation - you would lose all power.
However as mentioned it could be your MAFS. It could also be a vaccuum leak.
