oh yeah unless you are a deion sanders , champ baily , you can’t cover a guy without some pulling and pushing going on. i see so much of that. i do it myself when i play. when guys get called for it, its very obvious, you can’t put him on the ground.
thats another thing i hate! mike ditka said it best when he said they should start putting dresses on recievers and quaterbacks! i hate that no contact shit! i think its an attempt to make the game more exciting by scoring more points but its just pisses me off. i also hate how the QBs are so protected! fuck that! hes a player out on the field the same as everyone else!
in HS football they didnt call alot of pass interfernece when i played! again we were taught to be as physical as possible. one of teh tricks i used was to hit the hand or arm of a reciever i was covering repeatly while running besdie him to break his stride and throw him off balance.
Clipping and blocking in the back are two seperate calls, Cutty…
Clipping is below the waste from the back and a 15 yard penalty.
Block in back is above the waist and 10 yd penalty.
The reason holds dont get called on every play is because in the rule book, for every rule, it states that the player committing the foul must gain a “distinct advantage” by breaking the rule. That leaves it up to the referees discresion and therefore are reason why some penalties are called more or less than others.
I throw very few pass intereference flags b/c I was a reciever, I know the tricks, and I figure if you get your hand or hands on the ball and dont catch it, then tahts your fault, not the defensive backs fault. Unless the d-back is draped all over him or gaining a significant advantage by what hes doing, im leaving hte yellow hanky tucked in my waistband.
As for clipping/blcoking in back/chop blocks, I dotn fuck around with those. If I see one, I throw it all the time b/c they are whats called a “safety issue”. You dont have any discresion as an official to not throw a flag on a foul that is a safety issue flag. no matter where those happen on the field, even if they dont influence the play, they are called…
ya its a safety issue but i good called for a clip during a game and it pissed me off. i was on punt return and covering a gunner. he got a step on me at the line so i was right behind him. as soon as tyler caught the ball the kid over run and turned his back to me almost forcing me to hit him in the back because i couldnt stop! atleast i put him on his ass hard.
I used to hear that excuse all the time when I reffed hockey - “I didn’t mean to check him in the back 6 inches from the wall and put his face into the glass, I couldn’t stop in time”. Suck it up, a safety rule is there for a reason, to protect everyone.
the kid laughed at me when he got up and saw the flag plus when i watched it on film it was soo obvious
doen not make a difference - a rule is a rule
i agree but i was just pissed that they got the ball back along with a first down!
i feel if you got the heart to be on football field you should be ready for anything at anytime.
throw the rule book out and let the players do whatever they want, that would make for a good game.
huh?
i meant there is too much “well you can do this but not this” type of shit in the NFL. You should be able to drive a reciever right off the field ala Mel blount. In the grasp is BULL SHIT!. I agree that the kicker need protected but they need to tweek the rule, blocked kicks and punts are exciting but they can’t get agressive cause of the rule. get rid of fair catches but maybe increase the halo.
when you try to block a kick your not suppsot to ever leave your feet.
i like the fair catch rule but teh halo should still be BIGGER!
No halo rule in NFL or high school, only exists in college ball.
