Hill Climb

My 3 favorite hills to climb in WNY best time to be posted. #1 Rt 75 Eden to Langford, #2 Rt 62 Gowanda to the top, #3 Rt 20A Warsaw to the top. Post your times.

Blanchard, Darien, Darling and Vermont all off rte. 16 off the 400 are fun. Chestnut Ridge Rd. coming from Boston State as well as Zimmerman onto Shero. If you map it out right, you can hit them all within an hour along with some fun roads in between. Spring time is not the best for these roads with so much run off and loose stone.

Cars & Coffee April 19th, not far from any of these, might want to give them a try afterward.

I never even thought about doing a timed single car climb. What’s the housing situation like on these roads?

Rice Hill Rd in Boston…

Rt 75 has some housing near the top, Rt 62 out of Gowanda has housing at the base of the hill, but a interesting dip about half way up, Rt 20A has next to nothing after going under the RxR underpass.

It’s been posted before, all the good stuff is in PA:

Some OK jumps at the end of this one:

Locally I think there was a road heading east out of Holland / South Wales that was for hill climb, not sure which one Vermont St (looks like a run from 1200’ to 1600’)… or Blakely Rd, or Warner Hill Rd. Open google maps in terrain view.

Some of those cars were really moving. Those hill runs would be such a rush.

I went to griffis sculpture park by going to op and setting my gps to exclude highways. It was some awesome very rural roads. The best I’ve had in wny by far

I forgot that I made up a couple maps, like 4 years ago, I never did anything with them though:

Meh, those are in an old version of maps, and will not open correctly on my phone the first goes from 80 miles of road to to 50 and the second goes from 90 miles to 60. I wonder what will happen if I re-do it in the latest version of maps…

New version limits the amount of stops on the route, but this opens up on the phone:

There are a few organizations in the NE running climbs - in PA and MA for sure, not sure who in NYS is doing them.

OP leg 1 has a flaw, that junction into CraneRidge to Sprague Brook park isn’t open, and that’s an incredibly populated area, and a 15mph park…

Consider it a brake cool down area. I am not familiar with any of the roads, I was playing around on maps trying to come up with a what looks like it might be a curvy, hilly, interesting, local route.

Anyone could edit the map’s intermediate destination points, email the new url to themselves or post it here, and then open it on their phone. I wouldn’t be too serious to see what kind of times that one could lay down. 3/10ths driving is already breaking speed limits, 7/10ths is showing no regard to pedestrians, bicyclists, oncoming texters, 9/10ths is plain stupid on public roads. That would be like encouraging people to enter the 90 W to 400 exit at 120 and hit the left apex at 90, I mean, that is totally irresponsible and dangerous.

Poags hole is the best hill climb in wny.

Crump in Glenwood by KB used to be smooth and very fun. Last season they put gravel down on the road and I haven’t been back since.

wait so you people are just running public streets and timing it? Why not set up an actual event, you’re less likely to ruin someone else’s life by crashing into them that way.

Posting about this on the internet probably isn’t the smartest thing either . . .

Not “Running” call it aggressively driving.

A closed street event would be amazing.

I have tons of climbs in mind but I ride my bike up them while pulling Jr.

Stay off of Rt 62 in Gowanda, the road is a mess. Stick with Rt 75 Eden to Langford or Rice Hill Road.

We could make this happen. The format/hard work is already done, just get permit and sanction.
