The sound of these things never impresses me. They have potential though, its just that the stock sound control on the receivers in very limited IMO. I did something ghetto and bought a decent Onkyo system and ran it with an aftermarket EQ and sub amp, and its actually not too bad. Just dont expect too much right out of the box.
Yamaha makes good stuff, that newegg piece seems like a good middle of the road setup.
If your only looking to spend $400, then one of those surround sound systems in a box are the way to go. You can spend $400 really quick on high end stuff. Speaker wires can cost more than that.
my father has that, it does not decode any of the bluray audio, so you will be stuck with dolby or dts for your blurays.
i have a yamaha system at home, and it works great for the price. The sound quality to price ratio is amazing.
this is what i ended up getting, a little more than what i wanted to spend but thats ok heard a lot of good reviews about it
