I get a check in the mail every year, im sure there are alot of people eligible for this that do not know it. All you have to do is fill out the application.

Yeah, and the OP was right for posting this. What bothered me was even after being spoon fed the news article multiple people were too lazy to take the initiative to look up anything about the program.

I dont think i will get it this year, since i didnt pay a full portion of the 2008 school tax (i bought my house in july of this year and only had to pay 1 month of 2008 school taxes)

^you won’t be elligible for the STAR program until next year. Since you bought your house in July, you’ll be paying 2008-2009 school year taxes in full w/o rebate.

i bought in February, went to the west seneca town hall and took all my crap in with me shortly after i moved in for Star… i’m a Vet, but never “formally” served overseas (FU army) and they wouldn’t accept my DD214 for Vet bennies towards my school exemption or discount. i also paid into escrow and don’t “see” my tax bill, HSBC is probably fucking me as i type (this i know) same thing happened with my homeowners ins… i had to pay the premium before i moved in, then got a cancellation notice b/c they said my house was worth more and needed to pay more and mailed it to my old address. wtf, homeowners ins for the house i live in and mail it somewhere else; Brilliant! then i got a check back for the entire amount i paid when i started the policy b/c HSBC paid them and i got what i put in back… nothing has made sense yet with owning the damn place. now i can only imagine the shit mess that is about to ensue with my Star exemption.

actaully, whats weierd is that i got my tax bill for school taxes (not sure if its 2008-2009 or 2009-2010, ill have to look ) and they have the star exemption on them… the payment is due on oct 15th :shrug:

the way I read it, you don’t qualify if you purchased a house this year since you couldn’t apply for STAR this year.

Bought my house this year right after the deadline for STAR application.

I’ll get fucked until next year, then I’ll probably move out of state, so I won’t get it ever.
