STAR question

So I filed my application for basic star last december and have my “receipt of application”

I have not heard anything from anybody since then.

Should I have received something in the mail or what do I do to ensure I’m getting the credit?

When I did it I don’t remember getting any kind of confirmation other than the discount showing up on my tax bill.

I didn’t get any receipt when I applied for STAR.

when does one get their tax bill?

I don’t even get the tax bill until it’s already been paid by my mortgage/escrow holder; they get sent the bill directly.

Otherwise, I’m not sure when they mail the 2 different tax bills out.

Twice a year, once for property and once for school.

Property are end of the year, school end of summer.

I usually pay them pretty close to the due date out of spite and last year the checks cleared 9/28 for school and 2/18 for property.

I refinanced and the new company required escrow so I’m guessing they already paid my school tax for this year.

I just called my local assessor’s office and they confirmed I’m setup and all is well. So it all comes down to my mortgage company adjusting as needed based on the tax bill.

i pay my own tax bills, i recall getting them usually 3wk of sept or so

It all comes out of my escrow, which adjusts at the end of the year for the coming year based on the past year.

I’m actually hoping my taxes go down a bit this year. My assessment originally went up $32k, I challenged and they agreed to it only going up $7k. Because Amherst adjusted the tax rates based on all the assessments going up my $32k increase was only going to raise my taxes by $68. So I’m guessing that now that I only went up 7k my new tax bill should actually be lower.

STAR does not exist anymore … im almost 100% that NYS cut that shit out

Wrong.

They cut out the part where they send you a rebate check. The property tax exemptions are still there.

STAR still exists, but there are no more rebate checks. THAT is what they stopped.

My escrow adjusts every April for my May 1st Mortgage payment; went down $55 this year; hopefully it doesn’t adjust up too crazy next year…

Star due dates confuse the shit out of me. But pretty sure I was set for this year, still have to apply to renew this year.
