I have a 2006 Honda Civic LX A/T as my daily driver. Today driving home the transmission was bucking over the place, the check engine light went on and the speedo now reads “0” all the time. The car start out in 2nd gear and only shifts up to 3rd. I read the code and it came back a P0720, output shaft speed sensor. Any ideas? Is it replaceable?
Sounds like a speed sensor yeah, but I don’t know how hard it is to replace.
Something like this happened to me on a Mercury Sable winter beater. Same kind of symptoms. Turns out the speed sensor was connected to a PLASTIC shaft that went into the transmission. The sensor was good, but the shaft was stripped. The only way to fix it was to replace the entire transmission… something that cost nearly as much as I paid for the beater car to begin with, lol.
