Just picked this up over the weekend. Just need something to get me to work less than half a mile away. Leaving for the military in November so wont need a car once I leave. So this is my project until then.
So its a 2007 Honda Ruckus
49 CC
Aftermarket Exhaust
KN Intake
Ported Jets
2200 miles
Previous owner was semi experienced with small engines so things have been done well so far.
Just figured I would toss this up so if anyone wants to watch my progress.
Overall Plans:
New straight Password JDM handlebars
Speedometer/ Signal Light relocation into the battery box
Rear flush mount brake light
Well according to the DMV its registred LMA, so top speed 30-40. With the aftermarket parts I think it can do ~45. MPG is around 80.
I love it so far, and the only riding I have done is up and down my little street I live on. For me its a perfect around town commuter.
So got it all registered, and of course couldnt go smoothly. I was under the impression that it could be registered as a class b moped. I guess the previous owner and many other ruckus owners register them as motorcycles. So its now as I had previously stated a LMA, which required me to get my motorcycle license (planned on it sooner or later so why not make it sooner.)
So far Im happy with the lil ruckus, hopefully once I am through this tank of gas I will notice a change in top speed, currently its taking ages to reach 30. Thinking the gas sat all winter and isnt great, or I just need some carb adjusting.
So as an updated. Seems that the gas in the moped took a toll on the carburetor and the moped will now only start. Even the slightest bit of throttle and it stalls, not to good with small motors so hopefully sending it out to somewhere local that can check it out.
So even though the ruckus isnt running I got the mirrors today so that was my short project. Taking the ruckus up to Odessa Friday to get all fixed up.
For now, pics of the stock (inspection failing mirrorless) handlebars. Then with the mirrors on.
Actually if it sat all winter without sta-bil it might just be gummed up. Take the carb out, take it all apart, soak it in kerosene and get it good and clean. Put it all back together and get her running.
Or just shoot some WD40 into the float bowl drain screw hole and see if you can flush out some crud.
Yeah small engines mildly scare me so Im sending it out to Rider Sport in Odessa and paying to get it done, needs some other things too so thats the best route for me.
New tail light came in today, hopefully will be able to get to it this weekend, heres a sample of one installed and then a picture of the new unit itself:
Yeah I think so, thats what the site sells them from

So the shop in Ithaca called me today, guess the engine is lacking in valve shims, either they fell off into the engine or the previous owner lost them. Hes taking the oil screen out and checking if they are in there, if not then putting in new ones and hopefully finishing it up tomorrow. The fun continues.
I wish I could of sold my bike to you! This thing looks awesome tho! I’m seeing alot of mopeds and scooters out lately. Once you own something the more you notice it lol
The Ruckus is back and let the fun continue, so far Ive been fiddling with just minor things, moved the front turn signals. Next weekend the new tail light will be installed. Sadly other than that customizing will be temporarily slowed, left my job so no cash flow.
For now I leave you with this.
