Seeing how I haven’t updated this in forever, and I rarely post outside of the marketplace here goes, my newly revamped build thread!
Before I get started it HAS to be stated that this is the first car I have ever “built” and there has been a lot of guidance and help along the way. Not sure how many of you are familiar with “Team Accelerated” formerly know as “Accelerated Concepts” out of Auburn, but there’s a few of their members who have befriended me and become an enormous help. There has been some others along the way and a few stragglers, but i’m proud of this car even though there is still a ton to do.
here goes…
I picked this car up in april of last year From an acquaintance who was kinda hard up for cash. He had spent probably close to 10k in paint jobs and bodywork since he had bought the car and none of it was in a positive manner. He had the kit put on but not put on well and painted caddy white with the pearl and it was terrible. He then took it to a mutual friend who fixed the kit, made it fit correctly and then painted it mazda winning blue. Unfortunately the kid who I got the car from insisted on having the rear moldings shaved, and never understood that area was a major flex point in the car and it would always crack, so it was fixed 1 last time and painted over with a silver decal type deal which looked ridiculous. All while maintaining the original red engine bay.
These pics are an idea of how I got the car, not pictured, yet included on the car are…an “otto racing” exhaust that if cross sectioned could fit an NBA regulation basketball, ebay coil overs with stock shocks which were all destroyed, a crazy shift knob, a hand painted white inside door handle (still in the car ) and passenger air bag. The drivers seat was held in by 1 bolt, passenger seat was just set into the car, the seat belts were removed, the wiring for the stereo and gauge cluster were both wired in with masking tape (pictured), 2 of the wheels only had 2 lug nuts on them.
So, thats how this began, I took on a project, the plan was to DD this while I got crackin on 240sx. As the project got under way it was decided to just go all out and build a clean honda, so I scrapped the s13 project but kept all my good parts for the next one I buy, no one likes to part with RB goodies!
The first order of business was to be rid of the wing and wheels, they were god awful IMO so i scooped up a set of integra GSR wheels froma friend and filled the holes left by the wing with some epoxy and nail polished over them…
From there it was time to start the healing process, and be rid of the kit. Luckily my family owns and runs a junkyard in morrisville (dutchers Inc.) and they had got a 1997 del sol si in. so from that I managed to get a rear bumper, sideskirts, seats, carpet, mud flaps and tail lights.
then it was off to the body shop, and the hardest part of the build to date, picking a color. After great debate and about 50 different colors that I was set on, I finally decided id go cliche, and chose Championship White from the integra type R. I haven’t regretted the choice at all.
Taken with a real camera not a cell camera…
the roll out…
By this time its now october and its about time to put the car up, I was sick of the motor, sick of the brakes, sick of the input shaft bearing going bad in the tranny, absolutely tired of the suspension making the car a superball on wheels.
fast forward to this march, the car is taken to a friends shop, to have the bay sprayed and motor swapped, I have done nothing but buy car parts since my christmas paycheck, aside from the 1000 dollar tranny whoops/snafu its been not bad. shopping list is as follows… B18B1 motor mated to a semi junky 2000 civic si transmission, exedy stage 1 clutch, DC Sports 4-1 header, tanabe touring medallion exhaust (>90db ) Full bushing replacement kit, Skunk2 Pro C coil overs, all new motor mounts, B&M Short throw shifter, OEM front bumper, new 1pc headlights, front marker reflectors, new tie rods, $300 worth of new nuts, bolts, grommets, etc from honda, del sol vtec shift linkage, 93 dash, black center console section, rota circuit 8 wheels in full royal sports bronze wrapped in falken azenis rt615 tires, I know im forgetting some stuff, but you get the idea…
It was also decided during all this that there would be a wire tuck going on, turned out to be interesting to say the least…
And after all this work, heres the way it sits today…
I take new pics all the time so I will eventually just make a pics thread, I don’t have much for interior pics yet, because its still a long ways from being done, but I’ll update that as I go, thanks for checking out the thread!
