olds 455 maybe? 454 would be the chevy motor.
it’s white, ttops, corbeau racing seats, cowl induction hood, b&m shifter, shift kit, soon to be 2800 stall converter… new black carpet, and interior pieces…extra double pumper carb…new weather stripping, new front end bushing, traction bars, new suspension, headers, and exhaust, new gas tank/filler neck…a whole bunch of extra parts starters/alternators/ valve covers /rims…and the engine and tranny are off of a recent rebuild…new tune up, new inspections, new brakes and tires…and there is more i just don’t know… he got to the point that every time it made a funny noise he replaced something on it til the noise went away…
haha. and knowing the 70s fbodys, thats a lotta stuff that can and will make noise
since you know the car pretty well, would you be willing to shed me some light on what else i can do to this thing… like should this thing be running a 2 1/2" exhaust (not exactly sure on this, but i’m gonna look at it tomorrow when i put in the stall converter) or should i open it up more?
2.5" dual exhaust would be recommended, definately. even on my olds 403 it felt better by stepping up to 2.5"
depending on the power that motor is actually putting out, you may even want to think about 3" … but im kinda thinkin that might be a tad excessive really. 2.5" should be fine really.

which carb is in there btw? holley? rochester quadrajet?
dya happen to know which auto trans? th350 or th400? read end gear ratio?

well, the holley isnt stock for a '79 ta… but it might be stock for the engine thats in there now. hehe. both the 403 and 400 in '79 had the rochester quadrajunk.

the carb on it now is a contra, and i have a holley doublepumper i’m gonna slap on… i don’t know if i should put the stall converter in it, and if i do i’ll buy a bigger one, cause the one that i got is only a 2000…
heres the verdict…
bought and ran about a tank of gas through it, runs great and a rough idle …however… it’s only running on 5 cylinders… i pulled 3 of the wires off the distributor and it’s only running on 5, it’s either the wires or the plugs…i have a set of carbon wires for it…but i’ll probably shoot out in a few hrs and pick up some plugs and wires just to be safe… it’s that or the mallory ignition, the stupid design… there’s a carbon shaft that sends spark places, and that could be busted… so i’m gonna go call summit and order the cap, and shoot out tomorrow and get the wires and plugs…
i have all the expense records this guy put into this thing…got the parts and everything today…
also, it’s a th400 tranny, and i can sit here and go through the price records and tell you about anything on it :boink
th400 sweet. thats what was in my dad’s old '77 TA. itll take quite a bit of abuse
cant say ive ever heard of a contra carb tho… ive been outta the carb’d world for a bit now (basically ever since my brother took my TA which was like 8 yrs ago almost)
as long as it can take abuse i’m set…
i put the spark plugs in, and it’s running better, i just have to fine tune the carb and timing and it’ll be screaming hopefully tomorrow…
i’m gonna check out the book for the carb, if i have one…and see if i can find something for the vacuum advance, and all that…
cause something isn’t right cause when i blip the throttle it back fire through the intake, and i cant have that… i think it might be when the secondaries kick in…
i may just end up putting the double pumper and say fawk the gas mileage

Seems like a good find. Congrats on the car. Would Recommend getting rid of the Fly’s Eye air cleaner as it is gonna get sucked down the carb one day. i have seen multiple times. Otherwise great car.
i’m actually looking for a new one anyway…not to mention the thing was backfiring through the carb and it caught fire once or twice…
