Hot Rod goes 12.9 @ 112.9 in the New Camaro

i’m sure you can fit 18’s over the backs, just gotta find the right offset to clear the calipers. gotta remember the 18’s that are on the v6’s dont have the brembo rears like the ss’s.

yeah well 20’s on the front and 18’s on the rear are all so sweet. as a daily driver and all

I know Leno said the car was quiet and felt tight when he drove it, but honestly, what new car doesn’t? I bet it squeaks, creaks, rattles, and loses the “tight” new feel after a few thousand miles.

That battery cable thing doesn’t exactly instill confidence in the stuff coming out of GM.

every first year car has there issues they work through. at least the cam doesn’t break apart

It is built on the same platform as a G8 and the build quality is supposed to be about the same. I have a G8 with over 15K miles on it and the car still is very tight. I think a lot of it has to do with how you keep care of your car too. There are a lot of 4th Gens that rattle a ton, but my 99 with 31K miles is still very tight w/o many rattles at all.

i agree with keeping it descent. my 99 camaro with 80k on it was very decent… and almost all first years do have many problems. remember this is 90% new. and that 10 % is the drivetrain and that isnt what has had anyproblems.

13.2’s with 422 hp? Is it part supra? sorry mark.

Again, Hot Rod went 12.9 on 20" street tires. If the 4th Gen LS1 cars would never have happened people would be jocking that. I honestly don’t follow the new Mustangs, but has Ford YET to produce a NA Mustang that goes 12s stock, 100% stock?

Also not a bad time vs. Challengers with similar mods.

And finally for your consideration, A 12.5 WITH ONLY A CAI AND A TUNE ON STOCK STREET TIRES

Since when do 1/4 mile ET’s recorded with a G-tech like device count?? Did their dashboard print out a slip?

It’s Hot Rod, it must be true. :kekegay:

Anyway, the vid just above your post is a 12.5 at a drag strip, ya happy?

-TJ

So how much power do you think the CAi and Tune netted them?

I guess my next question is why isnt anyone putting some small wheels and nice drag radials or slicks on them?

The stock tune is pretty conservative… most bone stock M6 SS’s are putting down somewhere in the mid-360 to low 370s RWHP range. Though there aren’t many with a lot of miles, and the LS3 does open up with miles. Some LT/exhaust/cai/tune cars are over 400RWHP. With just the CAI/tune though I’d guess 380s.

The talk about the wheels 'n slicks is that the back brakes are too big. However, I’ve seen pics and I’d be really surprised if the right 18" wouldn’t fit. And there ETStreets Radials in 18" which I’d expect to help a lot. I bet it won’t be long before somebody swaps V6 or even 4th Gen back brakes on one and runs a 15/16" rim and slicks or ET Street (non-Radials).

it was a gps unit iirc, not a gtech.

gps > g-tech.

That is correct, there is no question about the accuracy, and it even calculates trap speed properly as opposed to instant like a G-tech. The only issue of contention is the whole roll-out thing. They put in a roll-out buffer to simulate the “free” motion a car gets as it begins to roll out before it actually triggers the timing lights.

id be the bastard trying that haha

460RWHP.

-TJ

i’d like to see specs on the cam before i’m impressed…

you can’t even make out at what rpm it make peak hp at in the vid…

Yeah, 460RWHP LS3s really aren’t a big deal these days, but it’s still cool to see it in a 5th Gen already. The idle clip early in the vid (when it’s on the 2-post lift) sounds like open headers… and I couldn’t see any visible signs of exhaust making out the tail. I’m not a big fan of that sound for a modern car.

-TJ

texas speed already did headers back to the axle with stock axle back with tune stock intake gained 50rwhp. thats insane. so that would be around 415 with headers and mid pipe with stock intake. not bad at all.
