import a car and register it here from the UK? i have a particular car in mind that i really like but i dont know if i can get it on the road here as there are only 6 in the US at US spec right now. is there any way i can find out how possible it is to get it road worthy here?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you want a focus RS ??
do a search on the DMV website and see if anything about importing cars is listed, or do a google search
the main issues will probably be emissions and safety, you will have to show how the car you want to import is just as safe as the US version vehicles and that emissions standards are complied with
a while back zero daze wrote up a big how to, on importing skylines. read that thread and it might have some beneficial relevant information

If i was to buy a focus RS from the uk, i would just buy a high milage, beater focus from the us, swap the vin tags,
leave shitty focus in the back yard when inspection time comes around
its illegal but it could work, prolly a lot cheaper and easier than going through emissions, DOT,
yea, swapping vins is such a great idea … instant grand theft auto charge along with a NUMBER of FEDERAL crimes as well
if theres a US version of a car your importing, swap the drive line and any body panels that are different, jesus christ
its not like its that hard to swap an entire driveline … even if the us car is fwd and the foreign spec car is awd … have the balls to cut the entire floorboard out and swap it over … THATS totaly legal

^^you got it…i wanted to try to build an AWD focus, but im having some issues with the tranny i can use being not nearly strong enough for the power. so i figured just buy something AWD already that is VERY unique and fun to drive

a friend of mine is currently in the process of attemting to get a Ford TS50 imported…hes going through some porfessional importer in Toronto, who is supposedly making the thing legal for the US and then hes gotta go pick up up and drive it across the boarder. my advice would be to go though a professioanl importer…i kno there are companies that import Skylines and shuch, so mayb u could find one that will do a Focus RS.
But serriously, a professional importer can really make things easier fior you…look at it this way: if for whatever reason, customs siezes the thing, an importer most likely has some kind of insurance to cover it. if customs siezes it and you are the importer, than more than likely u r shit outta luck.
